Gloria Ching August 29, 2022 Physiology of Exercise FITTE Reflection FITTE PRINCIPLE ON A WEEKLY BASIS The FITTE Principle is a formula that physical therapists use in prescribing exercise to their patients. Exercise for physical therapists is the medications for doctors. It is important to know how to properly prescribe and adjust exercises to achieve the therapeutic effects that is desired. As I studied and FITTE Principle, I have come to realize that I have incorporated this principle into my routine. I have been playing volleyball since my freshmen year of college and it was important for me to continue playing into my adulthood. As my love for volleyball continued to grow, I found that my body struggled to keep up with the vigor of the sport. Therefore, I adjusted my workout routine to strengthen and better my body to keep up with the competition. Part of the offensive side of volleyball is serving and spiking which involve a strong overhead swing of the arm. I noticed that my shoulder would start hurting if I exerted a certain amount of force. To combat this, I incorporated flexibility and resistance exercises into my work out routine. In the words of FITTE Principle, the type of resistance exercise I did was chest presses. I would do this at a frequency of 2x/week, intensity of 60% of 1-rep max, for a duration of 3 sets of 10 reps. Prior to doing this exercise, I would warm up with a flexibility exercise to increase my range of motion of the shoulder so I could better do the chest presses. The exercise I did was a pec stretch. I did this at a frequency of 2x/week with the chest press, but I would also do this whenever the anterior shoulder area felt tight. I would stretch to the point of tightness for about 10 sets of 10 seconds on both sides. These exercises worked well for me because it felt good doing these exercises and the benefits was reflected on how well I played.
