• 90% - occur just within 16 kilometers of Earth’s surface
• Protect us from the sun’s intense heat and ultraviolet
radiation

• The solid part of the Earth
• Extends from surface to the center of the planet
• Soil – the material at Earth’s surface that supports the
growth of plants

• Includes all life on Earth
