Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Region III, Central Luzon School Division of Tarlac Province Capas High School Dolores, Capas, Tarlac DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING Subject Matter: COMPUTER NETWORKING (CREATING STRAIGHT-THROUGH CABLE) Date of Demonstration: November 24, 2017 (9:30-10:30 a.m.) Prepared by: CARLENE S. GONZALES Practice Teacher Checked by: MR. RYAN G. DE GUIA Teacher III/ Cooperating Teacher Noted by: JONNABEL P. CATACUTAN Head Teacher VI/ TVE Department Approved by: EPIFANIA B. DUNGCA, Ed. D. Principal IV Prof.: JEFFERSON R. HERRERA Supervisor/Student Teaching LESSON PLAN IN TLE COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING 10 I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to: Recognize the importance and functions of straight through cable. Enumerate the procedure in creating straight through cable. Perform the procedure in creating straight through cable. Work safely and properly. II. Subject matter: Topic: Computer Networking (Creating Straight-through cable) Tools/materials/equipment: Crimping tool LAN tester Wire stripper UTP cable RJ45 Laptop Projector III. References: Competency-Based Module (CSS) pp. 93-98 (TVE Module) Competency-Based Module in Computer Hardware Servicing pp. 104-109 Procedure: Teacher’s activity A. Preparation a. Preliminaries i. Prayer ii. Greetings Good Morning class. Students Activity (one student will lead the prayer) Good morning Ma’am. iii. Checking of attendance b. Review Let us first recall our previous lesson, last meeting we’ve discussed what cross over cable is. (Leader per group will check the attendance) Does anyone of you can give the function of cross over cable? Ma’am cross over cables is a type of ethernet cable used to connect two like devices together. Very good! Can you give some examples of devices that uses cross over cables? We use cross over cable when connecting a pc to another pc. Very Good! Another? Ma’am When connecting a switch to another switch. Okay very good! Can you enumerate all the tools and materials needed in creating cross over cable? Very good! Ma’am we used RJ45, crimping tool, wire stripper, LAN tester and UTP cable. c. Motivation Before we proceed into our next lesson. Let’s play a game. Arrange the following according to the pin number designations for each color in 568B and 568A. Each group will arrange color coding of set 1 which is T568A & T568B and for set 2 is T568B & T568B. d. Unlocking difficulties 568A & 568B Ethernet cable B. Lesson Proper a. Discussion Class what did you noticed about our activity a while ago? Very Good! We’ve already finished creating cross over cable, right? And what do you think is our topic for today? Ma’am arrangement of color coding in Straight through cable and cross over cable. Yes ma’am ma’am creating straight through cable. Very good! Do you have any idea about straight through cable? (student will answer) Very good! Straight through cable are very much like to cross over cable, Crossover cable are commonly used to connect same devices directly, while straight through cable used to connect unlike devices. Can you give some examples of connecting devices that use straight through cable? Very good! What else? Very Good! Straight through cable is primarily used in connecting two unlike devices. Now that you already know what is straight through cable and the purpose of this. Let’s proceed on the procedure in creating straight through cable. Ma’am in connecting computer to hub we use straight through cable. Ma’am PC to switch Switch to router b. Application Each group will read the procedure in creating straight through cable. While the teacher demonstrating each step the students per group will follow. Direction: Students will create straight through cable using 568B color coding arrangement, by following the steps in creating Straight through cable. (student per group will read) (provided with the necessary tools and materials. Students will perform actual procedure in creating Straight through cable.) 1. Strip off suitable length of the cable sheath. 2. Sort wires by insulation colors. 3. Align the colored wires according to the specific order. 4. Trim all the wires to the same length. 5. Insert the wires into RJ45 plug. 6. Maintain wire order, left to right, with RJ45 tab facing downward. 7. Crimp the RJ45 plug with the crimping tool. 8. Verify the order of the wires is correct making good contact with the metal contacts in the RJ45 plug. 9. Repeat all the steps in creating the other end of the cable. c. Generalization Always take into considerations that before using the cable in connecting actual devices. It is suggested that you must use a LAN tester first to check the functionality of the cable. IV. Evaluation Students performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics. (the teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring rubrics.) CRITERIA Safety procedures PERCENTAGE 15% Adherence to the procedures 30% Workmanship 15% Quality of product 40% TOTAL: 100% RATING V. Assignment: A. Follow-up Assignment. 1. What is roll over cable? 2. Identify the function of a roll over cable. B. Advanced Assignment. 1. What are internet protocols? 2. Identify and describe the different protocols used in networks and internet. Reference: Competency-Based Module (CSS) pp. 98-100 (TVE Module)
