Dear Hiring Manager, I am currently working as a sampling supervisor for a research task in characterizing solid waste in New York State at the Waste Data and Analysis Center funded by NYSDEC. I have been a participant in waste characterization at a number of facilities across New York State, sorting more than 20 tons of MSW and recyclables. I would like to apply for the job as Research and Analysis Project Coordinator at Cascadia. I completed my doctorate in the Technology, Policy, and Innovation program, Department of Technology and Society, Stony Brook University. My research interest is broadly in the intersection of human behavior, technology, and policy in encouraging a more frequent proenvironmental behavior. In particular, I am interested in understanding how and why people recycle, how residents respond to recycling information and tips, and how waste education can help encourage frequent recycling behavior. My belief and passion have led me to work in the waste area and apply for the position. Before the PhD program at Stony Brook University, I earned degrees in Business Logistics Management (BASc) and Environmental Sciences (MSc) in the Netherlands, where I started to understand the impact people have on the environment and the role of human behavior in determining the future of the system. I also had several years of experience working in the environmental NGOs as a research assistant and a communications specialist in collaborating with other actors. I worked specifically with my supervisor on a policy report on false incentives for waste incineration in China. I also worked in a green hospital project to understand how medical waste should be dealt with. Throughout my academic training over the past years, I have made some achievements in publications and conference presentations. I am confident in conducting interdisciplinary applied research, conducting interviews and surveys, working well both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, and managing time and projects. Given my passion for the field of recycling behavior, material management, and policymaking, I would like to apply for the job. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to learning more about the job. Best regards, Yiyi Wang
