Devinny Moreno Laredo United High School, Laredo TX UISD District Easy Rhythms Subject: Music, Fine Art/ Size of Audience: 9-12 TEKS: 1(D) 2(B) Objective: Students will understand the rhythms in different pieces of music. Students will practice counting and clapping the different rhythms individually. Materials: ● Drum Pad ● Drum Sticks ● Eraser Markers Procedure: Introduction: For the first twenty minutes of the lesson, I’ll be going over why it is important to learn basic rhythms. After that, I will go over how to count basic rhythms, the base, and first branch of the rhythm tree. Guided Practice: Over the next ten minutes, I will give each student an assignment to work on individually or with a partner while I walk around the room observing them and answer any questions. After each student has completed the assignment I will spend about five minutes going over the assignment and answer any more questions if there are any. Independent Practice: Then for the last five minutes, I will be passing out my assessment to the students and go over again why it is important to learn basic rhythms. Assessment: Devinny Moreno Laredo United High School, Laredo TX UISD District The students will work two lines of the worksheet separately at their home. In this way, I can assimilate what they can do individually, and pick out which students need help from each measure. Educational Significance: By developing a good sense of rhythm, students will be able to identify when the pulse or the beat is off. This will set a foundation for more complex rhythms in the future. Rhythm exercises should be a part of a student’s daily practice regiment.
