Pre-Assignment for Business & Society Fall 2022 One action that society has taken that directly influenced a business. An action that society has influenced businesses was when pandemic started, many people run to stores to get a lot of toilet paper, food (majority of frozen and canned), alcohol, hand sanitizer, and stuff for a bathroom. This performance made stores create shopping rules for those goods. Then, each family could have the same possibility to get those products when visiting the store. The exact rule was, “each household can get just one item per visit”. I think this action influenced businesses because one of their main businesses’ purposes is to sell their service or goods. In this case all retail companies could sell all their supplies to just one customer. Likewise, their social responsibility needed them to make sure every family who visited their locations had the same opportunity to other consumers. Covid changed everybody lives, I am pretty sure nobody is the same person after pandemic hit the world. Hopefully all actions taken could change our thoughts to create healthy and better decisions that provide help to society and business in general. One action that a business has taken that directly influenced society. Something that businesses’ actions influenced society is social responsibility. In this case I am going to talk about the company Shein. This is a fashion e-commerce platform that distributes clothes for every boy type, accessories, shoes, bags, and other fashion items, most of them in a low cost. I bring this example here because on social media, and some clothes we can see many messages “from workers” (on tags) or labor defendants like “SOS”, “HELP ME”, etc. Into investigation, some reporters talk to workers saying that they must work for 75 hours each week with only one day off per month. Also, Shein is paying extremely low wages and poor working conditions. All those actions taken by this company made some consumers skip getting their goods. There was a campaign in social median to be socially responsible and stop getting stuff from companies that violated workers, and animals’ rights. Likewise, those laboratories that taste their make-up/products on animals. Some individuals stopped visiting these stores and opt out for companies with more social responsibility. Even though not everybody is opting for “better companies” and those action could not be influencing everybody. However, I see more people aware of what is happening around them and supporting beneficial organizations.
