1. What do others say about the current (positive and negative) trends of materials development?
As I conduct a short interview with my brother and close friend, my brother stated that the trends
of material development had made the education of every student fun, easier and effective learning
environment. Also, my friend specified that the trends of material development fitted right on this digital
age since this generation is exposed to the different technologies why not make the learning fun, easier
to access and much collaborative with the use of different applications and social media platforms.
2. What should drive materials development?
The factors that should drive materials development should be the goals and objectives that the
teacher’s want to accomplish after considering the needs and interests of the students in order to achieve
the target learning outcomes. It was similar with the curriculum planning. Moreover, the developing
material should target the success of effective and collaborative learning from the students which may
result to the development of their skills.
3. What are principles and theories of language teaching and learning relevant to materials
development?
The principles and theories of language teaching and learning that is relevant to materials
development is the Principle of Language Acquisition 3 since in this principle it was stated that in language
teaching emotion are basically involved in the learning process and to respond by laughing, getting angry,
feeling sympathy, feeling happy, feeling sad etc. moreover, achieving positive self-esteem is encourage.
Therefore, this principle can be related to the materials development since in developing such it should
be prioritized that texts and tasks are as interesting, relevant and enjoyable as possible to make their
learning fun and collaborative and drives positive influence on the learners’ attitudes to the language and
result to a successful learning environment. Also, in developing materials reading and discussing can be
perceived whereof it stimulates emotive responses and helps the students to articulate their feelings and
exercise their critical thinking skills upon internalizing the piece that they read.
4. Over the years, how have these policies aid government institutions in upholding and propagating the
national language?
These policies aid government institutions in upholding and propagating the national language
through allowing and encouraging learners to use their national language to foresee the benefits of
bilingualism. Additionally, the language provision of 1987 Constitution of Republic of Philippines which
are embodied in Article XIV Section 6 states that “The National language of the Philippines is Filipino. As
it evolves, it shall be further developed and enriched on the basis of existing Philippine and other
languages.”
