DESIGN BY IN PART NERSHIP WIT H S E P TE M B E R 2 02 2 When a child is battling a serious illness or injury, the entire family needs comfort and support. The mission of Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV) is to offer hope, help and a home-away-from-home to families during their child’s medical crisis. Keeping families close to each other and to the care and resources they need. Families are stronger when they are together, and by keeping them close, Ronald McDonald House plays a role in the healing and coping process. Located in Westchester County, just steps away from Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital - the Hudson Valley region’s most specialized pediatric intensive care hospital, the 12-bedroom House gives families a comforting place to stay during their child’s medical treatment – at no cost to them. During their stay, families are provided all the comforts of home, including a private bedroom and bath, daily meals through the volunteer Meals that Heal program, laundry facilities, a fully stocked food pantry, fitness room, and playroom for patients and siblings. In addition, various support programs are offered, such as onsite haircuts, massages, yoga, Art Therapy, and Pet Therapy to encourage families to care for themselves, so they can continue to care for their children. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days per year, the House offers a supportive environment where families can find comfort in knowing they are not alone as they share experiences with other families going through similar circumstances. After 11 years and more than 2,500 families served, the House is in need of many updates and repairs. In 2021, the common spaces, Great Room, Kitchen and Playroom were generously remodeled by Sara Touijer of One Room Wonders, Bjorn Bjornsson Designs and Smart Playrooms. Now, in 2022, the guest rooms and remainder of the common spaces and offices will be updated to create a comforting space that promotes healing and fosters an atmosphere of peace and hope for families as they cope with their child’s medical crisis.
