Kelso cops detain 'persons of interest' in
Portland slaying

ultnomah County sheriff's investigators interviewed two "persons of
interest" in the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old Portland woman Friday
after tracking them to a Kelso motel, according to Kelso police reports.
The Portland detectives asked for Kelso officers' help Friday in apprehending
Michelle Karine Worden-Brosey, 40, of Portland and Joshua Robinette, 38.
Worden-Brosey and Robinette were among three people last seen with Tiffany
Jenks before she was shot in the head in a Fairview, Ore., park just east of
Portland in the early morning hours of Oct. 8, according to the Kelso report.
Both Worden-Brosey and Robinette were interviewed at the Kelso police station,
then released. Police said a third person of interest in the case, Daniel Bruynell,
is believed to have fled and is on the run to California.
Lt. Steve Alexander, a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said
Monday afternoon that Worden-Brosey and Robinette were released because
detectives "obviously didn't have probable cause to charge them at this point."
On the night of her death, Jenks met up with Worden-Brosey, Robinette and
Bruynell at a Portland strip club, according to the report. All four then walked to
another strip club and, at around 2:11 a.m., got into a black Cadillac and left.
"That was the last Jenks was seen alive," a Kelso officer, relaying what he'd
learned from Portland authorities, wrote in the report.
Two independent witnesses told detectives they heard a single gunshot around
2:30 a.m. in Blue Lake Park, which is about 15 miles east of downtown Portland.
A motorist spotted Jenks, deceased and lying on her back, in the park about five
hours later.
Surveillance video from the strip clubs captured images of the license plate
number of Worden-Brosey's black 2008 Cadillac CTS. The camera footage also
helped detectives identify all of the car's occupants, according to the reports.
Investigators then learned that Worden-Brosey's credit card was used to book a
room at the Quality Inn, 723 Seventh Ave. in Longview just after Oct. 8. But she
was gone by the time Portland investigators arrived in Longview. Police said
Worden-Brosey had to leave the hotel after two days because it had been
reserved for someone else. The Portland detectives "scoured" the Longview/
Kelso area until they spotted the Cadillac parked at the Motel 6 at 106 N. Minor
Road in Kelso, according to the reports.
Portland authorities had arrest warrants for Worden-Brosey, Robinette and
Bruynell, who were also described in the reports as "potential suspects" in the
case. Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, who were on hand to
assist, arrested Worden-Brosey and Robinette as they left their motel room at
around 6:44 a.m. Friday. The pair were "taken into custody without incident"
and held at the Kelso Police Department, where they were interviewed. The
reports did not disclose what Worden-Brosey and Robinette told detectives. One
report said only that Robinette, whose city of residence was not disclosed, asked
a Kelso officer "why he was being held."
The reports did not indicate where the pair was released.
Kelso authorities assisted the detectives in securing search warrants, which were
served on the motel room and the car. Evidence from the scene was taken back
to Portland, according to the reports, and Worden-Brosey's Cadillac was seized
and towed to Gresham.
Portland newspapers reported last week that Jenks, the victim, came from a
large, tight-knit family that included a sister and four brothers. She was a
longtime Portland resident who had earned a science degree from Portland
State University and worked as a hydrologist for the Bonneville Power
Administration until her father died of cancer in 2010. Jenks was deeply
affected by his death and quit her job and struggled with addiction, according to
media accounts.
The police reports did not include Bruynell's age or city of residence.
