3 Easy Ways
To Find Cheap Domains
& Then Flip Them For
$1000+
Making money from flipping domain
names is easier than you think.
The 3 main ways that I use to make over
$100k a year on selling domain names are...
1.
Find brandable domain names to buy or register
from scratch.
2.
Find expired domain names that have history & backlinks
look at expireddomains.net
3.
Find aged domains that have never expired.
Buying and selling domain names can be an exceptionally lucrative venture
to get into, however if you are starting off with very little cash flow, it’s always
best to purchase lower cost domains and generate small profits as you work
your way up to larger flips.
One of the great aspects of domain flipping is that the efforts required are
minimal. No longer must you locate or integrate content, tweak website
pages, outsource tasks, or transfer websites. All you need to do is find
memorable, appealing domain names in niche markets and sell them to
buyers, eager to create their own website on this domain.
Brandable Domains
A brandable domain name can be hard to evaluate. Think of Google or Etsy
or Uber. Without the companies backing them, those names don’t really
mean anything.
To find brandable domain names you need to develop a good “eye” for
domains. After buying and selling many dozens of this type of domain, I have
come up with a checklist to help you.
● Stick to .com domain names (you can use others but you need to sell them in the right places)
● No hyphens (i.e. this-cool-domain.com)
● No numbers (i.e. cooldomain1.com)
For the full checklist, you might want to check out the full guide here.
In general, here’s where I think beginners can make the most
money with flipping branded domain names:
1 - Focus on 2-word dictionary names.
2 - If you can, come up with variations of single dictionary words.
3 - Focus on popular industries.
I go into much more detail in the full domain flipping guide here.
Expired Domain with History & Backlinks
An expired domain is one that has been used for a website but the previous
owner either chose not to, or forgot to, renew it.
This is important for one primary reason: domain names with history often
have backlinks pointing to them(links from other websites).
This is important because links to a website are one of the primary ways that
Google and other search engines determine how authoritative a website is.
This isn’t a lesson in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but it’s important
because there are a lot of buyers who are very interested in domain names
that have a good backlink history because they can use it for SEO purposes.
I tend to use 5 different places to find these domain name gems and a license
to print money. I’m going to give you only two of them as the full list is in the
premium Domain Flipping Guide.
The two expired domain name goldmines that I use are:
ExpiredDomains.net & Domainz.io
The trick to finding the money making domains is in the filters you apply in the
search function on ExpiredDomains.net.
I will teach you just how to do this over at DomainFlippingGuide.
Aged Domains
Domains that have been registered and never dropped (expired) are called
“Aged Domains”. For instance, one domain name I purchased was never
used, meaning it had never featured a website on it, it just sat parked in the
users account for over six years.
For buyers who are looking for aged domains, it can help them develop more
business credibility and trust.
Why?
Because if the domain has been around for years, it appears that they have as
well.
So simply put: Old domains typically sell for more than new ones do because
they have been around. I have purchased dozens of domain names for $50 or
less that were anywhere from 5 - 20 years old. Just based on the age alone I
was able to flip these domain names for over 100x what I paid.
How to find Aged Domains
I go into a lot more detail in the Domain Flipping Guide, but here’s a few
pointers for free.
1. Head over to OrderYourName.com, you will come across a few aged
domains for sale and the system will tell you if the buyer is thinking about letting it go -- and you can make an offer.
2. Aged domains can also be found on sites like Flippa.com and simply by
typing in the keywords “Aged Domains” into the search bar you can easily
locate domain auctions that include these older domain names.
The Profit Blueprint
While there is no exact science as to what type of
domain names will ultimately be worth the most, apart
from the obvious short and memorable domain names,
there are a few things to keep in mind:
1.
Development Potential
When you analyze the available domains in your list, consider what each
domain name could represent and be used for when creating a website
presence. While the purpose of the domain name will unlikely match your
ideas when it is sold, by thinking of a clear purpose for each domain name will
not only help you make sound choices during the selection process, but can
also be included in the domain auction, as a way of passing on the ideas to
prospective buyers who are considering purchase.
2.
Length Of Domain Name
It can not be said enough, that the length of a domain name, apart from the
odd occurrence where you locate a lengthy domain name that still carries with
it, a memorable element, most of the domain names you purchase should be
relatively short, basically consisting of two words.
3.
Trademarks
Avoid registering any domain names that could infringe upon the trademark
of existing companies, whether or not you believe that the company will take
action or not should not be considered.
4.
Relevancy / Popular Keywords
Does the domain name contain popular keywords that are used by those
seeking out more information in search engines? If so, your domain name just
increased its value instantly.
5.
Existing Traffic
If you are purchasing aged or recently expired domains, you will want to
determine whether there is existing traffic to the website or not, thus increasing it’s value immensely. Organic, natural traffic sent directly from search
engines is the best kind, however back links from other websites are also very
important to potential buyers.
6.
Recognizable / Memorable
Is the domain name easy to say aloud? If your customer were to purchase
the domain and build a business with this name, would they be able to easily
brand it?
7.
Targeting the Buyer’s Mindset & Current Trends
When choosing your domain names, there will be many factors that come into
play. The type of buyer you are catering to, the auction sites you are
featuring them on, current popular trends to piggy-pack on, the price range
you are expecting and so on.
There is no one way to do this, and you will learn to become a better domain
evaluator (and purchaser) from hands on experience. Using the guidelines
above however, will help you maximize your efforts and minimize your costs
(and losses).
And That’s It Folks!
Buying and selling domain names can be exceptionally
lucrative. I have bought and sold thousands of domain
names in my 10 years flipping, which has earned me
consistantly over $150k a year.
Many of my students and friends are earning $500 - $2,500 per month from
flipping low cost domain names, while others have gone to secure high value
domain names that are generating them revenue even before they are resold!
One of the great aspects of domain flipping is that the effort is minimal. No
special skills are needed. All you need to do is find memorable, appealing
domain names in niche markets and sell them to buyers, eager to create their
own website on this domain.
Risks are quite low as are the investment costs, and once you have set up
your system so that you are generating daily income, it will require no more
than one hour a day to keep the cash flow going.
It’s not a difficult business to get into, if you follow these simple tips
to buying and selling domain names. Good luck!
