DAILY LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 9
WEEK 1
First Quarter
June 3-4, 2019
I.
Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. answer the diagnostic exam for the first lesson;
b. recall previous mathematical concepts about linear equations;
c. identify and describe linear equations using practical situations and mathematical
expressions; and
d. appreciate the importance of the relation of Linear Equations to real life situations.
II.
Subject Matter
Topic: Diagnostic Test, Recall on Linear Equations
Resources: Grade 9 Learner’s Material, Teaching Guide
Materials: chalk, board, paper, ballpen
III.
Procedure
A. Preparation
The students listen to the rules set by the subject teacher. After, they answer the diagnostic
test once the instructions are given and understood. They pass their papers and have these
checked. Then, they must define some mathematical terms to unlock difficulties:
1. Equation
2. Degree of Equation
3. Slope
4. Range
5. Domain
B. Presentation
The students answer the following questions as asked by the teacher:
When is a given equation linear? What do you think are the properties of Linear Equations?
Present the following equation:
a) x + 5 = y
b) x² - 10x = 12
c) x - 5y =2
d) y = x⁴ + 3x² - 10
The students must identify which of the equations are linear. Let them assign values for x
and solve for y. Tabulate the result and solve for the difference in x and y. Ask them to
describe the difference. Based from the result, if you are given table of values, how will you
know if it represents linear or not?
C. Practice
The students are grouped in set of 5 and answer the following questions:
1. Which of the following equations represents linear equation:
a)x2 - 5x + 3 = 0 b) x3 = 8
c) y = 3x +2
d) x5 = 32
2. Assign 5 values of x and solve for y.
Graph the equation.
Then after, ask the students to work in pairs.
INSTRUCTION: Identify which of the following equations represents linear equation:
a) 4t2 - 9 = 0 b) x2 + x = 24
c) y = 8x - 3 d) y = x3 - 8
2)Assign 5 values of x and solve for the corresponding values of y. Tabulate the result.
3)Graph the equation.
IV.
Assessment
Answer each of the following questions:
1.What type of equation is the equation y = x - 1 ?
2.Determiner the degree of the equation given in item 1.
3.If the value of x is 2 , What is the value of y ?
4.Assign two values of x and solve for y. Show the graph.
V.
