Health and Safety Check List

We take continuous action to maintain the safety, cleanliness, and organization of the classroom. Our proactive
activites include, but are not limited to, the following multiple times a day, week, or month appropriately according to
standards.

Put away adult personal items out of child reach
Mix bleach water, refil all cleaning bottles - store all chemicals out of child reach
Unstack all chairs, place appropriately and set up room (no stacked chairs w/ children)
Scan room for safety issues, resolve issues (outlets covered, equip good repair, etc )
Room is generally clean and organized.
Check that all hygiene supplies are in place (soap, toilet paper, towels, garbage liner)
Make sure diapering supplies are available and places within reach at changing station
Check to ensure medication and chemicals are locked and out of child reach
Clean and sanitize eating areas before and after meals, inluding highchairs
Check cribs for 3ft distance between, tight fitting mattresses and sheets only
Make sure path to exit is clear and first aid kit accessible

Facilitation of a positve and welcoming environment :)
Monitor child health (parent input gathered)
Wash hands frequently
Scan outside play area/equipment for safety before use
Diaper change and toilet routinely
Remove garbage/dangers on playground before use
Clean up spills as they occur
Pick-up, sort, and remove soiled toys
Sweep the floor regularly
Serve meals following sanitaion rules
Remove or repair of potential dangers quickly
Clean and sanitize counters, tables, mats, toys, etc.
Communicate safety or compliance issues promptly
Administer and store medication properly

Clean and sanitize sinks and sand/water table
Pick up soft items and mats off the floor, stack chairs
Pick up classroom
Required teacher to child ratios and direct, attentive supervision maintained through day
Fresh air curculation throughout day, no strong oders
Hot liquids/food (more than 120 degrees) out of child reach, not consumed in care areas
Any open containers, tubs, bucket, pools of water were emptied immediately after use
Check and record refrigerator temp (needs to be 38 to 41 degrees)
Check frig contents for appropriate labeling, update labels/remove contents as needed
Check medication box for expiration dates, remove contents as needed, lock
Children played outdoors unless health risk present or temp feel 25 to 90 degrees
Medications, sunscreen application, any special care duties completed as needed

Clean and sanitize handles, door knobs, mirrors
Clean chairs and table legs
Check that first aid kit is fully stocked, easily accessible adults only, and its
location in the room is clearly marked for anyone to see. (The kit goes where the
class
goes.) phone numbers including child abuse and neglect reporting as well as

the poison control center are posted clearly where the adults can see them with
instructions about how to dial out. Internal phone numbers/extensions are also
posted.
A current list of individual child allergies and medications is posted in the
classroom and anywhere food is prepared/served.
Prescription medications are within usage date, have complete and propper
labeling, kept at the recommended tempature, and are stored out of reach of
children (and separate from food) in a locked container. Over-the-counter meds
are accompanied by clear written instructions from the health care provider.
Declutter
Check windows, window coverings, screens, cords for good and safe conditions
(windows accessible by children open less than 4 inches or have guards)
Monthly - Throughout(Note the date the task was completed.)
Clean and sanitize shelving, including cubbies, behind and under things, etc.
Clean window ledges, corners, and hard to reach places
Clean large equipment, toys, etc.
Check equipment throughly for safe conditions and in good repair (check for broken toys, accessories,
frayed or very soiled rugs/carpet, items with sharp edges/cracks, etc)
Remove, repair, and/or request replacement for unsafe, worn, or broken equipment
Update, rotate, and/or add to the child items in at least one area based on child interest or to create interest
Make sure heavy toys are placed on lowest shelf and there are no tipping hazards
Make sure cleaning solution bottles are clearly labeled
Plastic bags, matches, candles, lighters are stored out of children's reach
No latex balloons in room or on site
