1) This permit to work relates to any work involving temperature conditions which are likely to be of sufficient intensity to cause ignition
of combustible gases, vapours or liquids in or adjacent to the area involved.

Only one hot work permit should be issued at a time.
The responsible officer is usually the Chief Officer on deck & the 2nd Engineer in the Engine Room.
Work involving "Naked Flame or Continuous Spark production" applies to all hot work involving high temperatures, open flame,
electric arc or continuous source of sparks. This type of work includes but is not limited to welding, burning and grinding. Hot
work shall be performed only if all other means cannot achieve the task effectively. For this type of hot work outside the
designated area, the Company must be consulted for permission to carry out the work. Details of work proposal, risk
assessment must be discussed and authorization given by the office. The office will send an approval message when all
conditions are considered satisfactory. The completed Risk Assessment & Office Permission for Hotwork (Work PermitWP3A) for this job, which has been approved by the company must be attached to this report.
4.
Work involving "Spark Potential" applies to all hazardous work not involving naked flame or continuous spark production, and
would include use of non-intrinsically safe camera / infra red guns/ Fire detector testers etc., use of air driven rotary
equipment, sand or grit blasting etc. Permit is to be used for the use of such equipment on deck i.e. outside the engine room &
steering gear and outside the accommodation.
