PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION REVIEW
PROJECT NAME: PROJECT IHAP: Provision of Arithmetic Workbook and Teacher’s Support Instruction in Sharpening Early Graders’ Numeracy Skill
I.
BACKGROUND
i.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Project Ihap is an innovation project in Mindulean Elementary School created in order to address the learning issues
of learners in the early grades such as grades 1, 2 and 3 in Mathematics subject. Due to the global health crisis
brought by COVID19, some learners in the school especially in the early grades have shown a very poor
performance in Mathematics. So teachers come up with an intervention which is latter named as Project Ihap. This
project uses Arithmetic Workbook which contains compiled activity sheets from various trusted educational

websites which corresponds to the given competency in Math that needs to be practiced and enhanced by the
select learners. Aside from utilizing the Arithmetic Workbook, recipients of this project will also receive a supportinstruction from the teacher. This focusses on enhancing the basic numeracy skills of young graders such as
identifying, comparing, writing, skip counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers from 0
to 99. The project will run for 12 weeks and learners involve in this are expected to solidly comprehend the basic of
numbers so they can proceed in learning the complex concepts of Mathematics.

REVIEW OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF ASSESSMENT
This project review aims to determine the success rate of Project Ihap when it comes to attaining its objectives. The
review will also assess the effectiveness of Arithmetic Workbook and teacher’s support-instruction as an intervention
in addressing the gap between young graders to their basic numeracy skills. Learners’, parents’ and stakeholders’
participation will also be assessed in order to determine satisfaction rate of the recipients in this project. It will also
cite the causes of some lapses and shortcomings that happened during the project implementation to further
improve the activities for future use.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
i.
OVERALL ASSESSMENT
For three months that Project Ihap was implemented in Mindulean Elementary School, it was observed that the
recipients who actively participated in the project have shown an improvement in Mathematics subject. There is
also a significant increase to their Mean Percentage Score which is taken from the results of their subject’s
assessments and a notable increase in their grades in Mathematics. Teachers commend the improvement shown
by the young graders when it comes to their attitude and performance during Math time. As for comparing the
pre-test and post-test results of Project Ihap, there is an evidence of a change in scores by individual. Each recipient
gained several points and it is a good evidence to tell that they benefited from Project Ihap. With this, it can be
pointed out that Project Ihap has a significant success in its implementation as it attained its objective which is to
improve the basic numeracy skilsl of young graders from 60% to 80% within three months or twelve weeks. The
variables which are used as the bases in the success rate of this project is the Mean Percentage Score of the class
from first to fourth quarter in Math subject. The Mean Percentage Score in Mathematics from grades 1 to 3 is shown

Basing on the table, the MPS of the select grade levels in the first quarter is very low which has the mean of 58.16%.
After the intervention of Project Ihap, the MPS in the fourth quarter has reached up to 81.33%. This entails that the
objective set at the start of the innovation is attained.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
ACHIEVEMENT
As stated in the overall assessment, it was found that Project Ihap has attained its objective
in increasing the basic numeracy skills of young graders from 60% to 80% basing on the

result of subject’s Mean Percentage Score. The post-test result per recipient has an
increase of points compared from their pre-test result. Thus, Project Ihap is effective in
enhancing learners’ basic numeracy skills.
BENEFITS
This project has help the young graders to understand numbers and realize that
Mathematics is easy. It will not be difficult to them to understand other complex concepts of
numbers as they have understood the basic. Teachers teaching Mathematics subject can
proceed in introducing new concept to graders knowing that they have already the
knowledge of the numbers. Parents who are busy to the point that they cannot attend to
their child in learning will be helped because of the support-instruction given by this project
and the support coming from stakeholders or community members involved in this project.
USER SATISFACTION
Upon the interview and asking for feedback, both learners and parents are satisfied with
the outcome of Project Ihap. Their child has been helped in his academic difficulties and
the school helped those parents/guardian who are illiterate or busy at work in teaching their
child during the modular class.

LESSONS AND RECOMMENDATUONS
i.
LESSONS
Interventions like this project is a big help to both teachers, learners and parents. Teachers should design programs/
activities/ projects/ plans that may address the learning gaps that are existing because of the national health issue
that disrupted the normal living of citizens. Project Ihap has taught lessons that are beneficial to the learners’ part.
Going back to the basic of numeracy is just like going back to the basic of reading. Literacy should not only be the
focus of schools during pandemic. It must be that numeracy and literacy should go together and be mastered by
the young graders. Having the knowledge of the basic allows the learners to learn more. It is like opening a door for
them to continue and keep on learning. The Workbook that is initiated by the implementer is a good help in
practicing the basic of numbers. The activity sheets enable the learners to apply the concept they learned. The
support-instruction that is given in a one-on-one mode of teaching is a great way for learners to receive enough
attention in learning. Through this, the learner is not afraid or ashamed to ask questions and get clarifications from
what is taught. It is really great for teachers to give time to each of their learners. It is an avenue to know more about
the child and understand his situation. One-on-one support-instruction is an avenue to build rapport among learners
and teachers. Project Ihap has touched parents in their responsiveness to their child’s learning. The prompt

feedback given by the implementer in verbal or text has inform them about their child’s performance in his
academics. Through this, they know where to give support to their child knowing what the child needs. Even if there
are parents who weren’t there to assist their child, it is still good to know that they are working from afar in order to
support their child financially. Yet still, being informed by the implementer about the importance of their presence
to their child’s academic improvement opens their mind on how to help their child even if they are not around.
Parents and teachers should work together in order to help the child learn best. Involving the stakeholders like the
Barangay Counsels and other community members is a good way in order to help the child efficiently. As said, it
takes a village to raise a child. The Barangay should also look into the wellness of the academic development of
every child in the community. The support of the counsel in this project has really encourage everyone involve in
this project.

RECOMMENDATIONS
The objective of this project is attained. However, it is good to note some of the scenarios that needs to be discussed
in order to be avoided in the next implementation of this project. First, the printing of Arithmetic Workbook. Time is
scarce during the production. There should be enough time allotted for the printing of workbooks or enough human
resources and printing machines in order to catch up with the schedule. Second, the implementer should assign a

specific community member or stakeholder to follow up a certain recipient who has no follow-up at home or those
learners who has illiterate guardians. That community member should also be communicated by the implementer
about the performance of the child. It is best to secure a commitment form in order to have a formal agreement.
Third, the Barangay should be informed about the parents lack of support to the child. If home visitation will not
work, the Barangay Counsel can do their part as the family is a member of the community. It is also recommended
to inform the Barangay Counsel about the academic performance of the learners in the community and include it
in their session to assist the school and the learners. Fourth, teachers should attend seminars and workshops about
teaching strategies and self-actualization. Having equip with both ideals will sharpen teachers’ way of dealing the
distress caused by some problematic learners. Lastly, if the mind is being fed so must be the body. Implementer
should include in the budget the snacks for the recipients. There are recipients who come to school with no meal
and it affects their performance in the project.
