BRIEF REPORT ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
It was an exciting educative time, when Hans Raj Academy celebrated the WORLD
ENVIRONMENT DAY “in two phases.
In the first phase, school took all the higher growing students of 6th,7th & 8th grades for a field
trip to Rubber plantation site in near by Kalimpong area. It was both exciting and learning time
for us to “know-how” the rubber is prepared from white milk like substance extracted from
trunk of a Rubber tree. Government of India has sited area of many rubber trees in the
Himalayan region. It has also planned to plant many rubber tree saplings in a well domed and
protected greenhouses against wild animals in the forest. We had the first hand privilege of
viewing these sites in forbidden thick forest of kalingpong District. We had interacted with the
local workers of Rubber plantation industry and excited to know the process of how expensive
rubber is produced in the market. It was interesting to know that the milky extract from the
tree is collected in a bowl tied to the tree over a period of months. Then the chemicals and
various salts are added to make it into a milky rubber sheet form. There upon various
manufacturing companies take it and convert it into a Tyres and Rubber tubes used for
commercial and daily usage of the public. All the students were totally curious to know the
rubber making process and visit the rubber sapling plantation site. On the way back, we had the
privilege of collecting a good amount of black fertile soil present with rich humous in many large
bags for flower plantation in various flower pots and garden of school premises on the next day.
The second phase of world environment day was celebrated on 5th June, 2022. We had learning
time of knowing how to plant trees in the soil. Our Principal Madam Mrs. Seena Chettri gave us
brief speech on world environment day in the morning and we were split in four houses and did
the work of planting various flower plants in the garden in a sportive spirit. All our classroom
classes were cancelled and we were having practical classes in the nature on how to plant and
grow trees. All the teachers guided us including the non-teaching staff. It was exciting to see
little children dancing to the rhyme music on the world environment day as we were busy in
preparing the soil, planting, watering the trees in the rich fertile soil brought a day before from
the way back on the first day of world environment day out field trip. Now we know the value
of trees and are interested in planting trees even in house our own premises. We have learnt
the lesson of protecting the environment by protecting green trees and personally interested to
plant as many saplings. We thank the school principal and management and all school teachers
for bringing into awareness the value of protecting green house environment all over the earth.
I hope the same excitement prevailed on all schools on “Happy World Environment Day”.
Mother earth was happy with our efforts in Hans Raj Academy School in Rangpo District. We
thank one and all for making the celebration of World Environment day a success.
