IMPACT OF ESTABLISHING READING ROUTINE AMONG GRADE 3 PUPILS WITH READING DIFFICULTY Part I. Situation Reading is one of the most essential skills that a child should develop in his/her early years of learning. Developing the reading skill at an early stage is so critical and must be given utmost attention because this is where the foundation lays for an effective learning in the succeeding years. A child must have a good reading skill to have a good academic performance. The problem of the study is focused in finding out the importance and impact of reading routine among grade 3 pupils with reading difficulty. This study also emphasized the importance of parental involvement and the great role of the parents in the reading development of their children. There are 22 grade 3 – Love pupils of Calawag Integrated School in the school year 2021-2022. In the conduct of the Phil-IRI group screening test, there were seven pupils who got a score of below 14 and need to continue further assessment and intervention. That is why the researcher, sought to study the situation of the pupils’ reading practice at home and the factors that affected their reading performance. Part II. Findings and Insights The study revealed that reading routine has a positive impact to pupils’ reading development. The more the pupil will practice reading, the more he/she will improve his/her reading performance. It was also revealed in this study that the more involved the parents in the reading routine of their children, the more their child will be motivated to practice reading often. Parents guidance and encouragement to their child has a good effect to them. The pre-test and post-test had varying results. The reading routine among pupils led to an increase in their reading performance. Thus, reading routine should be established because reading skill can only be improved through continuous and consistent practice. Part III. Summary Reading routine among pupils should be established. It should be continuous and consistent so as to improve and master their reading skill. In addition, parents should involve themselves in the reading development of their children. Children who are guided by their parents are more motivated and encouraged to practice more reading. Thus, leading to improved reading performance. Furthermore, reading materials must be readily available and accessible to the children at home. So, the more the chance they can practice reading. Lastly, the teacher can greatly help by providing reading materials, especially to those who have no materials at home.
