1. Explain the working and operation of split phase induction motor with neat diagram.
2. Explain the equivalent circuit of 3 phase alternator and hence obtain the generated voltage per
phase when the alternator is operating at lagging and leading power factors.
3. Explain the working principle of an alternator with necessary diagrams. Write the differences
between salient and non-salient pole type machines.
4. A 3 phase, 6 pole alternator has a star connected winding with 144 slots and 10 conductors per
slot. The flux per pole is 0.02 Wb, sinusoidal distributed and the speed is 1200 rpm. Find the
frequency of the induced emf, phase emf and line emf. Assume the coil as full pitched.
5. Describe the principle of operation of a 3-phase induction motor with a neat sketch. Explain
why a rotor is forced to rotate in the direction of rotating magnetic field.
6. What are the parameters on which speed of an induction motor depends? Explain any two
methods of speed control used in 3 phase induction motor
