enough, through, beautiful) EN3PWR-IVj-22;
2. complete sentences using irregularly-spelled words; and
3. write the correct spelling of irregularly-spelled words.
Learn independently and have fun! Good luck
Let Us Try
Let’s try this activity and see how far you have learned about
some irregularly-spelled words (e.g. enough, through, beautiful).
Are you a nature lover? Can you imagine how it would be
like to live in a world where plants have stopped growing, where
flowers refuse to bloom and where trees do not bear fruits at all?
Directions: Read this article and find out what balance of nature
mean.
Balance of Nature
Source: Across Borders 4
For nature to stay healthy, no one part can be allowed to
disappear and make nature lose its balance. Every form of life is
food for another. The balance of nature depends upon three
groups of living things – the producers, the consumers, and the
1
decomposers. These three forms a circular chain that goes around
and round like the chain on the bicycle.
The producers can make the food that support the other
creatures in the chain. Green plants and some kinds of bacteria
are the most important producers. They harness the sun’s energy
to make food by a process called photosynthesis. A few species of
bacteria use the energy in chemicals to make food by
chemosynthesis.
Consumers are living things that cannot make food for
themselves. They survive by taking in food that has been made by
other living things or the producers.
Decomposers are important parts of the food web. When
plants and animals die, the decomposers such as bacteria and
fungi, turn the dead matter into materials such as carbon dioxide.
That will be used by the producers. This food chain cycles.

Let Us Study
In spelling activities, your teachers have been telling you to
listen very carefully to the sound or how the word is pronounced
so that you can spell the words correctly.
But there are words in English that are spelled in a different
manner from the way they are sounded. Try to answer our next
activity and discover these words.
Activity 2.
DIRECTIONS. Complete each sentence by using the words from
the list. Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper, then
read all the words twice.
WORD LIST:
- what
- whose
- you
- their
- who
1. _____________ ball is this?
2. That is ___________ house.
3. _____________ do you think?
4. Can ______ help me find my wallet?
5. I have a friend _________ is good at playing basketball.
Congratulations! You were able to complete the sentences
using the words from the list. Please check your answers using the
answer key.
Read the words that you used in the previous activity again:
what, whose, you, their and who. What did you notice while
reading each word?
3
You are right! These words don’t sound as they appear. In
other words, they differ in sound from their spellings. They are
called irregularly-spelled words.
When a word is spelled in a different manner than its
sound, that word is referred to as an irregularly-spelled word.
Source: English Worksheets Land. https://www.englishworksheetsland.com/grade3/4irspell.
Take for example the words again and said. The letters -ai
produces a short -e sound, yet they don’t follow the spelling of the
words having the short -e sound such as: hen, pen, led, red.
Since irregularly-spelled words do not follow the spelling rules,
there is a need for you to familiarize and expose yourself to these
words. That means to say that you need to practice reading
these words by taking time to read different reading materials
where you can encounter these irregularly-spelled words.
Here is a list of some irregularly-spelled words. Practice
reading these words aloud.

There are words in English which follow certain pattern or
rules. We call them regular words. Some words, on the other
hand, do not follow spelling -patterns. These words are what we
call irregularly-spelled words. The best way to learn them is by
familiarizing and memorizing the words.
Make reading a habit to learn countless of irregularly-spelled
