Hi All,
I wanted to reach out to the community to ask for help with a goal oriented-program. I am 17 and
a senior in highschool who will be playing a sport in college.
My goal going into my freshman year of college is to get much bigger (I am 5'7" and 160 pounds
currently) and stronger. However, I also like to do bodybuilding work and hypertrophy as well.
Also, I am in a caloric surplus and have gained about 9 pounds in 3 and half weeks bulking. I
also have been lifting for a few years, and started off by doing SL 5x5 for a while until the
volume got too much with the squatting 3 times a week.
Thus far, I have been following this program https://www.aworkoutroutine.com/the-musclebuilding-workout-routine/ and have blown up in terms of mass but not so much in strength.
My lifts are approximately Bench: 165? (155- 5x5) lbs, Deadlift: 320 lbs, Squat: 320 lbs? (2855x5), and OHP: 135 (120-5x5) lbs. I like the routine I am doing now because it has been great
for adding mass, but I am looking for something that will include strength as well with the mass.
I have been researching and have found 5/3/1 (Wendler and nSuns) variations to be interesting,
but have heard they aren't great for mass. I have also been looking at PPL variations. Also, I have
considered just changing the heavy compound lifts in my current program to a 5/3/1 style for
strength. I also have seen Jeff Nippard's "Science Based" PPL but Im not sure if that would be
conducive to strength gains.
With so many different options I am lost with which program would be best for my goal of
progressively getting stronger but also more muscular and massive.
If anyone has suggestions or insight to a program that i either suggested above or not, I would
gladly listen!
Furthermore, my bench is my weakest lift and I have always had trouble gaining strength or
mass in my chest, even when on SL 5x5 I would have to deload consistently.
Also, its a bonus if the program has an app (like SL 5x5, or one of the 5/3/1) for convience sake.
