SHINDLER'S LIST OSKAR SCHINDLER- Protagonist, womanizer and con artist ITZHAK STERN- Intelligent man who never loses his pride in the face of the violent and dehumanizing conditions the jews face under the Nazi regime. CHARACTERS LEAD AMON GOETH - cruel, sadistic man, deeply entrenched in Nazi philosophy. EMILIE SCHINDLER- good and patient woman who loves Schindler unconditionally. POLDEK PFEFFERBERG - Jewish smuggler HELEN HIRSCH - Amon Goeth's Jewish maid, who lives a tortured life LIAM NEESON as Oscar Schindler- German entrepreneur and opportunist BEN KINGSLEY as Itzhak Stern- Shindler's Jewish accountant and conscience. SUPPORTS AMON GOETH - A Nazi soldier in charge of building of Plaszów work camp. EMILIE SCHINDLER- good and patient wife of Shindler TOTALITARIANISM - personal beliefs and faith in religion other than ideals of the state, is met with severe consequences. Jews and society were rejected because they were different from what they believed in. PHILOSOPHY IMPLICATIONS Behaviorism - The system was based on reward and punishment. Judaism - Oskar Shindler even manages to let his workers reclaim some of their religious traditions by observing the Sabbath on Friday nights. LOVE: Good will emerged from the most unlikely places. Schindler was able to save 1200 people and this shows that people in business can make as much or an even greater contribution to the public good as government and non-profits. LIFE: “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.”- This doesn't pertain only to adults but to all because even a child can save a life with quick thinking and courage. EDUCATION: Because of Shindler's bravery to save 1100 jews then education will now be possible for the next generation. As quoted STERN: There will be generations because of what you did. This is a statement of fact, but it's also a statement of faith. The faith and traditions of the Jewish people will have a future thanks to Schindler. It's the best revenge against the Nazis. REFLECTIONS RECOMMENDATIONS The movie is a sad reality that was never acknowledged or has been totally neglected of help. The brutality of the Holocaust is heart breaking and made me in tears as I watched specially innocent people being murdered. Learners should be aware of this history and the best we can do is tell as many different pieces of the story as possible. The story of a small group who were saved must help us better understand the reality of those who did not survive. I agree with Steven Spielberg's purpose in making Schindler's list movie mainly because it was for Education. I recommend social reconstruction so that our learners today will be prepared to a new intellectual revolution on the education system against progressivists in order to treat the social ills, overcome the social and cultural crisis and to rebuild the society. There is still so much hatred in the world today and the most important lessons are lesson of truth and tolerance so that such an event will not happen again. MaED - ENGLISH
