Week 2: Story Creation
Unit 6: Linked Analysis and Input Controls
Linked analysis and input controls
Filters
Users can create various story,
page, and widget filters, which helps
them to focus on a specific set of
data.
When viewing a story, users can
change story and page filter values
as well as how the values are
displayed in the filters.

▪ The story filter allows you to
apply filters for all charts and
tables in a story that are based
on the same model.

Page Filter
▪ The page filter is the
same as a story filter,
but applies to just one
page in a story.
Widget Filter
▪ Users can filter a widget by
selecting members directly on
the widget or through the
Builder panel. Widget filters
apply only to the data displayed
in that widget.
3
Linked analysis and input controls
Dimension-based filter
Users can create a story, page, or widget
filter based on a dimension.
As a story designer, these options can be
applied to a dimension-based filter:
• If it is dynamic or fixed
•
•
If it can be edited by viewers
If it has single or multi select

4
Linked analysis and input controls
Measure-based filter
Story and page filters can be based on a measure and its specified range of values. When creating
a measure-based filter, users need to specify one or more dimensions for aggregation context.
For example:
• You need to show data only for regions with $100 million or more in sales revenue
• You can create a measure-based filter on the Sales Revenue measure with Region as
aggregation context.

5
Linked analysis and input controls
Advanced filtering
Advanced filtering lets you create story and
page filters based on multiple dimensions by
defining a set of logical conditions.
▪ The dimensions used in advanced filtering can
be filtered using AND or OR conditions. These
conditions can be set to include or exclude the
data that satisfies the filter conditions.
▪ For example, you can create a filter which
includes either the region China and sales
manager Janet Bury or the region North
America and sales manager Gary Dumin.

6
Linked analysis and input controls
Measure/dimension input control
Measure and dimension input controls
can make charts and tables dynamic by
allowing users to choose the measures or
dimensions displayed at view time.
Users can then dynamically change the
data displayed in a chart or table by
changing the values of the input control.

Linked analysis and input controls
Linked analysis
Story designers can create a linked analysis to create filters and choose which charts will be
updated by it. It is a convenient function for linking widgets to control the filtering of one element by
another.

8
Linked analysis and input controls
Linked analysis configuration
Story designers can set up linked analysis per
widget (e.g. charts, table, or page input controls).
Designers can enable linked analysis by clicking
the More Actions menu in the widget.
When setting up linked analysis on a widget,
designers can choose which widgets it affects:
▪ Only this Widget
▪ All Widgets in the Story
▪ All Widgets on the Page
▪ Only Selected Widgets

Linked analysis and input controls
Bookmarks
Bookmarks can give viewers quick and easy
access to frequently used scenarios. There are
two types of bookmarks you can create:
▪ Personal Bookmarks: This type of bookmark is
only visible to you. You can share private
bookmarks with other users who also have access
to the story.
▪ Global Bookmarks: This type of bookmark is
visible to anyone who has view rights on the story.
Today, bookmarks can capture story & page
filters, input controls, charts, tables, and geo
