WELD 224 – WELDING ENGINEERING I Specification for the Formatting of Lab Reports Requirements Lab report formatting requirements shall be as shown in samples 1-3 and shall satisfy the following requirements: 1. Lab reports shall have half inch margins. 2. The title block shall be formatted with Arial 16 font, and shall include: o o o o The title of the lab report. The required title is the title given in the submission folder (e.g. “Safety (S) Lab Report”). The name of the student (Samples 1 and 2 show a single author. Sample 3 shows a lab report with multiple authors). The date. The class designation (i.e. “Weld 224”). 3. A black line is required separating the title section from the body of the lab report. The line shall be 1” from the top of page. 4. Each lab report must have at least three sections with a header. Sample 1 shows the minimum layout: o Introduction. o Report (This can be broken up into logical sections with headers that appropriately introduce the subject. As an example, Sample 2 shows the format of a lab report that discusses an experiment with three different filler metals). o Conclusion. 5. Each section header shall be Arial 12 font and shall be preceded by a line space. 6. Section headers shall be underlined. 7. There shall be no line space after a section header. 8. Paragraph text shall be Arial 10 font, single spaced. 9. Paragraphs shall not be indented. 10. Additional paragraphs within a section (excluding the first paragraph) shall be preceded by a line space. 11. No figures or tables shall be included in the body of the report, but shall be included in an appendix and referenced in the body of the report. 12. All lab reports must be submitted as PDF files.
