Elizabeth Anne P. Salas BSED-ENGLISH 2-1 Upon reading the given selection, I cannot help but remember that Oscar Wilde once said, “I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being." True enough, Theatre is a great avenue to know ourselves a little better. Immersing ourselves into this art form is a step closer to unraveling our inner thoughts and feelings without the fear of being bounded by inhibitions of any sort – the judgment coming from other people, the pressure to conform to our society, the truths we long to protect, and even the anxiety brought to us by our own selves. It is a safe place where we find the beauty of every action and expression ranging from the subtle twitch of an eye to the blatant crying or laughing that would demand the attention of the crowd. Losing yourself in Theatre is finding all the missing pieces of the puzzle because you would be constantly looped into the exchange of Art. As the playwright, you are tasked to tell the tale of Life and its unbelievable parts in such a way that it would leave the people to search and feel their own experiences that they have overlooked. As the actor, you are tasked to enact the tale with so much passion that you have made the imagination of the scenes come alive. As the audience, you are there to connect the dots and witness that Life is not out of reach and you are in fact, sharing the same experiences with others. You are there to realize that we are all so alike than different and other realizations in between make the exchange of Art far more meaningful. Theatre, aside from being an avenue to get to know ourselves in the most humanely way possible, is also there to make learning in any academic subject a little easier. Constant rehearsals would build one’s confidence in speaking and rapport with the crowd, concentration to achieve the common goal, and would likely develop your critical thinking skills in dealing with unforeseen situations. As a teacher in the making who sees all the good things in Theatre, it would also mean the world to me if I would see my students in the near future get immersed and develop the same thinking as I do have now all because of this great art form. May the development of technology not hinder the growth of the art form but rather let it flourish so it will reach more generations to come.
