The legislation aims to ensure that employers and workers are aware of each other’s responsibilities and protect the well-being of employees. Legislation protects employees from discrimination or unhealthy work environments. An example can be the Fair Works Act of 2009. This legislation was mainly introduced to reform the industrial relations system in Australia. It ensures that employees in an organization are protected against discrimination, racism, harassment and are treated fairly in lieu with their employment rights. Policies and procedures provide employees with a decent amount of understanding towards expected behavioural and performance standards while providing rules and guidelines for decision making when facing problems. They also help in keeping the company on track to do their mission to gain their vision. An example can be a recruitment policy in a company. A potential employee can sign an employment agreement, but a company’s policies and procedure can allow them to terminate that potential employee’s contract if their background checks do not come clear. This written policy protects the company from any legal action too. 4. Identify and describe two critical thinking methods that may be used to identify complex issues in the workplace using the table below (there is an example to get you started). Method Description Interview This method uses a formal or informal interview process to obtain information about a workplace issue (such as how a product is used). It asks relevant questions to relevant stakeholders and documents the answers. Performance review This method is a formal process where in an employee’s contribution to the team, his/her research and analysis of the problem domain and practical approach to solving complex issues is seen.
