General Physics Teacher Yanibeth Pandales IGCSE • • • • • Introduction Welcome to the physics class. Make sure you follow instructions through the presentation and complete it all. Use paper to complete all the assessments formative and summative. For questions Feel free to contact me : ypandales@oxford.edu.pa Success Criteria: Objetive • Students will speak about measurements and give examples of areas studied by this branch of physics. Describe the use of rulers and measuring cylinders to find a length or a volume and how to measure a variety of time intervals using clocks and digital timers AGREGAR UN PIE DE PÁGINA 4 Making measurements How length is measured? Using a ruler • A ruler (rule) is used to measure the length of an object between 1mm and 1m. What is the SI unit of length? Metres, m. CHAPTER 1 Coursebook page 3 5 How can you find the volume of a regular solid? By calculation. • Use a ruler to measure dimensions • Use an appropriate equation to calculate volume CHAPTER 1 Coursebook page 3 6 Volume formula for geometrical figures 7 How can you find the volume of an irregular solid? By submersion. • Fill a measuring cylinder with water and read initial volume • Submerge the object (hold down if necessary) and measure final volume • The change in volume = volume of object CHAPTER 1 Coursebook page 4 8 How can time be measured? Using clocks or stopwatches. How can the accuracy of measurements be increased? By taking multiple measurements and calculating an average. CHAPTER 1 Coursebook page 9 9 How can very small distances be measured? Using a micrometer screw gauge Or Vernier calipers CHAPTER 1 Coursebook page 5 10 Formative assessment Solve the following practice in your folder All the formative assessment should be done for a checkmark in your folder AGREGAR UN PIE DE PÁGINA 11 Formative assessment Solve the following practice in your folder 1. This cone is 6m tall and has a radius of 2m. What is its volume? 2. Find the volume of a cube that has a side length 5 inches. 12 All the formative assessment should be done for a checkmark in your folder Formative assessment Solve the following practice in your folder Coursebook Questions 1.1-1.4 page(5,6) 13 All the formative assessment should be done for a checkmark in your folder Thank you Feel free to contact me Email ypandales@oxford.edu.pa
