University Kitchen Staples That You Need
Deciding what to take to university can be a challenging process. And although it may be easy to pack
your clothes and décor for your room, deciding what to bring into your kitchen can be difficultespecially if you haven't lived out before. Here at We Buy Any House, we have compiled our top tips on
kitchen university staples.
Salt and Pepper:
An obvious cupboard essential, salt and pepper are the basis of most people’s kitchen essentials.
However, that doesn’t mean they can go by without being mentioned- as they are the base ingredient
seasoning of many people’s recipes. Therefore, these two are an absolute necessity to have in the
kitchen!
Cooking Oil:
Needed to cook any type of meal, cooking oil is a staple ingredient you definitely need to have in your
university kitchen. Most meals use cooking oil as a base ingredient, and although a lot of recipes will
suggest using extra virgin olive oil, any oil will do! However, if you do want to spend a little more and
perhaps be a bit healthier, you can choose to use coconut oil instead. This is a great alternative as you
will notice a hint of coconut in your food too!
Tea Towels:
Although your student accomodation will typically come with a few tea towels stored in a drawer or
random cupboard, it's probably a good idea to bring your own as these will have been used for previous
tenants! You can find a set of cheap tea towels from small convenience stores; they will be extremely
necessary as what are you going to dry your plates with?!
Pasta:
Pasta is an absolute university essential! If it's your first time living out, then cooking can become a bit of
a chore, and food shopping is quite expensive. However, thankfully you can buy pasta at a relatively low
cost- which is great if you are trying to manage your finances and budget. The beauty of buying pasta is
that it can be dressed up or down with any sauces or ingredients and is quite a filling dish!
Tinned Foods:
Unlike fresh items such as bread and milk, tinned food can last a lifetime (not literally!). Therefore, it’s a
really good idea to stock up on your tinned food, so that you will always have something in the
cupboard to make a quick and easy meal, but also so that you’re not wasting your money on fresh food
time and time again.
Condiments:
If you have had to resort to eating plain, tinned foods, such as pasta and rice, then you are inevitably
going to want something to drown out the bland taste. With this in mind, condiments are a great
addition to your university kitchen cupboard. Think ketchup, BBQ and sweet chili sauces- you can buy
these in bulk, and if you get non-branded ones, this can be a cheap way to jazz up bland meals.
