Fear is among the seven emotional states that everyone feels at some point in their lives. The threat of physical, emotional, or psychic harm, real or imagined, causes fear. Fear, despite its reputation as a "terrible" emotion, plays a crucial function in keeping people safe by mobilizing us to deal with possible danger. There are three characteristics of fear: Intensity- how serious is the danger that is being posed? Timingis the danger imminent or coming soon? Coping- What, if any, steps may be made to mitigate or eliminate the threat? Fear is reduced or eliminated when we are able to cope with the threat. Alternatively, when we are unable to reduce the threat of injury, fear increases. Fear can occur soon after being surprised and frequently oscillates with the emotion of rage. Taking the risk of starting a project or a social venture might be frightening because, let's admit it, there's no assurance that the risks will pay off. However, if you postpone, or even worse, neglect to attempt, you can indeed be certain that your huge idea will never take off, unless someone else does it before. You can even feel unsatisfied, beginning to wonder if? What if it had succeeded, and I was able to use my unique abilities to make a significant contribution to society while still earning money doing what I enjoy? We understand that fear is a normal emotion that impacts everyone else from billionaire businessmen to Saturday market vendors; all pioneers experience it and must conquer it whether they are to thrive. But what kinds of worries do entrepreneurs have in particular? Fear of failure, fear of leaving a secure employment, fear of the future, fear about what others might think of them, fear of ineptitude, or fear of not having access to the necessary information? "One of the important innovations a man (or woman) can make is to learn he can achieve something he was worried he couldn't do," Henry Ford famously stated. The only way to conquer fear seems to be to experience it, go through with it, to do whatever it is you're frightened of, regardless of your reservations. Zamora, Elizabeth O. NR 33 Page | 2
