Kamikaze A kamikaze pilot is someone who flies their plane directly into a target so that they can complete their mission, even though it means they will die. Sonnet formusually a love poem • First: I met a traveller from an antique land • Last: Lone and level sands stretch far away • Most important: Look on my works, Ye Mighty, and despair Prelude The one where the boy steals a boat but then realises that nature is stronger than him Written as a dramatic monologue- it is part of a much longer poem that describes him growing into a man. • First: One summer evening, led by her • Last: by day, and were a trouble to my dreams • Most Important: a huge peak, black and huge My Last Duchess The one where the husband wants to control his wife so much he decides to kill her and keep her picture on the wall Written as a dramatic monologue from the Duke (who only cares about his own opinion) • First: That’s my last Duchess on the wall, • Last: Which Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me • Most Important: I gave commands/ then all smiles stopped together The Charge of the Light Brigade The one where the soldiers were sent into a battle they could not win The length of the stanzas shows us how long each part of the battle lasted • First: Half a league, Half a league • Last: Noble six hundred! • Most important: Theirs is but to do and die Poppies макове The one where the mother remembers her son as a child, even though he is now a soldier The poet uses lots of caesura- it shows that she is very emotional Caesura is when there is a full stop in the middle of a line of poetry First: Three days before Armistice Sunday Last: Your playground voice catching in the wind Most Important: Skirting the graveyard walls, my stomach busy Exposure The one where the soldier explains that the weather is more scary than the war itself The length of the poem shows us how long war lastsand the words ‘nothing happens’ are repeated so show they are waiting • First: Our brains ache, in the merciless iced east winds that knive us • Last: But nothing happens • Most Important: We only know war lasts, rain soaks, and clouds sag stormy War Photographer The one where the photographer is remembering his time at war and thinking about the idea that people do not care 4 equal stanzas show how calm he is being even though he is remembering very emotional events- but caesura shows us he is actually upset. • First: In his dark room, he is finally alone • Last: He earns his living and they do not care • Most Important: Belfast. Tissue The one where tissue is used as a metaphor for how the world relies on what is written down The last line is on it’s own to show that people forget the connection between history and the present.
