Prism Lab Directions
1. Use the prism in this space to trace the spectrum of color. You will have to fold the
edge of the paper up. What is the order of the colors, starting with red? Write an
observation using the term refraction OR diffraction.
2. Use the convex lense (magnifying glass) to burn through the word “SUN”. If this
does not work,remember the deserted island question. What do you observe? Why
does the marker work but the bare paper does not?
3. Use the tip of your pen or pencil to poke a small hole in your paper. Hold the paper 8
inches off the ground and observe the sun’s light shining through. Now, slowly lift the
paper. What do you observe about the circle of light? Write an observation using the
term refraction OR diffraction. Make sure you choose the correct term, otherwise you’ll
get the question wrong!!!
