SUBJECT: Request for one-time funding
The attached memo is a request for one-time funding to organize an event which named
‘Accounting Day’ at June 28 in order to bring up students’ interest on accounting.
However, our society is lack of funds to cover the cost for the event despite we had
collected membership fees. We would like to request one-time funding around RM5000
for decoration of the booth, producing flyer and inviting an instructor to provide
consultation to students.
I hope our society able to receive one-time funding from you as this event is benefiting
the students. You can contact me through bossku69@gmail.com or 012-3456789 for
further information. I am looking forward for your reply. Thank you.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In respond to the recent deregulation of the telecommunication industry in Hong Kong, Mega
Talk Telecommunications (H.K.) Limited (Mega Talk) has invited Professional Consulting
Associates Limited (PCA) to propose a business opportunity assessment study which would
assist it in positioning itself in the industry.
The purpose of this report are: (1) to evaluate business opportunities for MegaTalk in the
International Long Distance Calling Service Industry based on the industry structure, industry
evolution and MegaTalk’s strengths and weaknesses relative to its potential competitors. ;
and (2) to suggest competitive strategies for MegaTalk in the existing and emerging
environment.
The report shows that there will be ample opportunities for investment due to the
Government’s liberalization measures to encourage fair competition in the market. The
release of the International Simple Resale (ISR) license will probably invite new firms to
enter the market. At the same time, many callback companies will reform their market
strategies in order to cope with the changing market environment. With the deregulation,
price will be a determinant factor governing competition in the market. Also, as companies
merge to better utilize capacity, intense competition will also be expected. Bargaining power
of buyers will increase accordingly whereas that of suppliers will still be not strong enough to
drive the industry competition. In respect of the threat of substitute, the internet phone is still
at the developing stage and therefore does not pose a great threat to the industry in the short
run.
As a new entrant, MegaTalk can enjoy flexibile in respond to the external environment and
formulating competive market strategies. However, in face of the cut-throat competition,
possible reactions from the existing competitors are imminent. Optimal competitive strategies
would enable MegaTalk to find its market niche and to keep edge with the competitors.
Based on market dynamics and potential as well as MegaTalk’s strengths and weaknesses,
PCA suggests MegaTalk to adopt the focus strategy with either one of the three variations:
cost focus, differentiation focus, cost and differentiation focusthe cost and differentiation
is the optimal. PCA also recommends MegaTalk to target to the geographic destinations as
well as the corporate buyer group
