Phone: +2347063002171 Email: eaaluko@futa.edu.ng COURSE DESCRIPTION This is an introductory course to the concepts of law, planning administration and procedures in Nigeria. This will expose students to the aspect of general law, land law and conveyance. The Origin and source of Nigeria land Law, planning laws, the law of tort and contract, legal control of statutory bodies, appeals and enforcements among others are expected to be touched in this course. Case studies and application of planning law to existing situations will be examined. 1 COURSE OBJECTIVES The objectives of this course are to: introduce students to the concepts of law and administration procedures; and impart detailed knowledge on the origin and source of Nigeria law as well as case studies and application of planning law to the existing situations in Nigeria. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES / COMPETENCIES Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Understand the concept of law and administration in Nigeria Explain the sources of planning law in Nigeria Explain the Land Tenure system in Nigeria Law of Tort and Law of contract Nigerian constitution and Hierarchy of Nigeria courts GRADING SYSTEM FOR THE COURSE This course will be graded as follows: Class Attendance 5% Term paper 15% Test 20% Final Examination 60% TOTAL 100% GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Attendance: It is expected that every student will be in class for lectures and also participate in interactions in the class. Attendance records will be kept and used to determine each person’s qualification to sit for the final examination. In case of illness or other unavoidable cause of absence, the student must communicate as soon as possible with any of the instructors, indicating the reason for the absence. Academic Integrity: Violations of academic integrity, including dishonesty in assignments, examinations, or other academic performances are prohibited. You are not allowed to make copies of another person’s work and submit it as your own; that is plagiarism. All cases of academic dishonesty will be reported to the University Management for appropriate sanctions in accordance with the guidelines for handling students’ misconduct as spelt out in the Students’ Handbook. Assignments: Students are expected to submit assignments as scheduled. Failure to submit assignments as at when due will earn such student zero. Only under extenuating circumstances, 2 for which a student has notified any of the instructors in advance, will late submission of assignments be permitted. Code of Conduct in Lecture Rooms: Students should turn off their cell phones during lectures. Students are prohibited from engaging in other activities (such as texting, side talks, etc.) during lectures; late coming to class is also prohibited.
