Traditional Shopping vs Online Shopping
Shopping has always been a part of everyone's life, and for many people, it is a hobby. In
today's technology-driven world, the number of purchasing possibilities has increased, giving each
consumer more and more choices. It has been found that an individual's buying selections differ
depending on their situations. Due to the many advantages of buying online, a significant number
of people are opting for it over conventional stores (Martin, 2020). Despite its benefits, traditional
shopping has a variety of drawbacks. Drawbacks are so severe that the shopping experience will
continue to lag behind the internet market.
My first discussion point is the difference in time and comfort between shopping in shops
and purchasing online. Shopping in shops consumes more time than shopping on the internet.
Including travel time, a visit to the mall may take 2 to 3 hours (Martin, 2020). You'll have to spend
a lot of time shopping for the right things or waiting in queues to pay for them. On the other side,
shopping online eliminates the time spent traveling and driving or walking from shop to shop. You
don't have to stand in queue for your items, unlike buying in a storefront (Martin, 2020). Especially
if you are pressed for time, you may complete your purchase in minutes. Shopping online allows
you to shop at any time of day or night, and your purchases may be delivered right to your home.
Another distinction I evaluated between buying in shops and purchasing online is item
efficiency and effectiveness. Depending on the size of the business, the resources and styles
available may be restricted (Greene, 2017). Furthermore, clients are unaware of the most recent
products on the market since shopping malls cannot update their inventory with the most popular
and current products rapidly. When it pertains to recalling or exchanging products, shopping in
establishments offers the advantage of doing it quickly and with instant results (Greene, 2017).
When buying online, on the other hand, you may receive a variety of brands and items from many
3
merchants in one location and the current trends. Compared to traditional retailers, online
businesses provide a more extensive range of colors, styles, and sizes (Greene, 2017). While
conventional shopping allows you to touch the products you want to buy, internet shopping will
enable you to read specifics about the products such as type of material, length, and other factors
and read comments from other purchasers who have purchased the same product.
Between purchasing in a storefront and online shopping, the product's price is my final
consideration. You are having trouble finding products at reasonable prices in a store. Because the
shop must cover operating expenses like rent and staff, the pricing is somewhat high. On the other
hand, online retailers provide a fixed cost for the items, eliminating the need to include overhead
costs in the initial price (JAMES, 2021). Nonetheless, online store items are frequently less
expensive than those found in shopping malls since they are sent directly from the producer
without the need for a middleman. Discounted coupons and refunds are available across many
online stores (JAMES, 2021). For instance, if you're at a shopping center to make a purchase but
believe the price is too high, you must walk or drive about comparing the prices, but I can stay at
home and compare prices from various online businesses with the click of a mouse. Comparing
pricing is easier when you do it online.
However, shopping online can also have its set of challenges and difficulties. First of all,
deliveries may take longer than expected. This can significantly inconvenience the buyer who
might have wanted to have the product in a specified time (Martin, 2020). Next, the products may
get destroyed during shipment due to wrongful packaging and negligence. At times the companies
responsible ignore the buyer and even fail to compensate them for their destruction. This makes
the customer lose interest in online shopping, and confidence in the shipping company is also lost
(Martin, 2020). Lastly, some advertisements for products online are wrong. It is not once that
4
people have received products that look nothing than what was advertised online. This problem,
for example, would have been solved had the outcome been bought at a physical store.
Overall, the good outweighs the bad in this case, making me support online shopping in
favor of buying goods physically at a store. Almost anything that can be purchased at a shopping
center can be purchased with simplicity online (Greene, 2017). The only additional costs would
be shipment and clearing fees, but these might be offset by the savings gained by purchasing
online. If you genuinely want to make your shopping experience easy, online shopping is the path
to follow. You can acquire whatever you want at cheap costs while sitting in the comfort of your
own home.
