With the growing issue of environmental sustainability becoming more apparent in our everyday learning and language, becoming aware of the way that the water we consume is an important aspect of being an environmentally positive contributor to the planet. By living more eco-conscious lives, recycling materials, and minimizing our ecological footprint, the process of water treatment becomes better and is able to more efficiently provide for all humans and many organisms throughout the planet. It is always said that there are children living in low-income societies and under-developed countries that do not have easy access to clean drinking water, but the truth is that it is not only the children, but it is also the mothers, fathers, animals, and plants within the ecosystem that are all quenching for water, the same water that is taken advantage of in overdeveloped countries such as the United States. Within the conversation of being better stewards for the environment comes the fact that in societies like that of the Americans, a ridiculous and overwhelming amount of water is constantly being dumped out without proper use or care for it. The exercises demonstrated in the domestic water usage activity completed, I was able to observe that the consumption of water that I use in a daily and weekly basis is substantially more than the average that should be used to contribute to environment in a positive manner. In the shower, faucets, clothing washers, and lawn watering areas I am consuming and average of twice the amount that is deemed adequate. In the area of the toilet use, I consume three time the amount if water that is deemed adequate! This information serves to show that my lifestyle habits must be altered and made more efficient so that sharing becomes easier with people in the world who don’t have access to any of it. I also observed that the age of the fixtures and appliances that I recorded had a huge impact the amount of water used, as well. The older the appliance were, the most water was being consumed because its efficacy level had not yet been updated. I believe that if I updated the appliances/fixtures around my house and was more conscious about using the least amount of water that I could, I would be doing a better job at contributing to a cleaner and greener future environment, and at the same time I could help efforts to bring water to those people who currently do not.
