● Monitor for elevations in temperature to
differentiate between infection and
neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)
● Monitor for orthostatic hypotension
● Do not use while breastfeeding
● Monitor liver function tests
● Assess mental status
● Can cause suicidal thoughts and
seizures
● Monitor for signs of allergic and
hypersensitivity reactions (skin rash;
tightness in throat and chest, cough)
● Liver function testing
● Renal function assessment
● May cause suicidal thoughts
● Do not discontinue abruptly
● Evaluate therapeutic response
● Discontinue if cramping, rectal
bleeding, nausea or vomiting occur
● Do not administer with one hour of
other drugs, antacids, or milk
● Monitor any respiratory problems
(wheezing, tightness in chest)
● May cause CNS depression
● Be alert for increased anxiety or
agitation
