SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY Question: Relate the course GEC 17 (Science, Technology and Society) to the degree program you are pursuing at CMU. In what ways will the course affect you as a student at the university, and as a citizen of the country in general? Answer: Studying science and technology provides us insights about how the processes of new knowledge brought by science are initiated and utilized, and how innovative technological processes are developed and employed for fulfilment of the necessities of the society. Gradually, science and technology have advanced and mutually integrated to each other to resolve the unprecedented societal issues that has been emerged continually. The advancement made science and technology sophisticated and the same moves far away from its root of existence. With the complexities in science and technology, constituents of the society have to learn from its very beginning and be up to date so as to know the importance of the science and technology and use it as a tool to fill up the needs of the society. Moreover, due to the advancement and sophistication in science and technology, GEC 17 as one of the subjects of higher education in Philippines is a form of medium to regularly provide education and information about the science and technology to the students schooled from various universities and colleges. Besides, the accountancy program is one of the recipients of the assistance offered by GEC 17 relative to science and technology constructs. The bearer of the accountancy program needs to learn science and technology because evidently it has innovated the accounting profession in variety of way. At the outset, accountancy program holder has to equipped itself with right competence before exercising his/her knowledge and skill taken from the program.
