Animal Cells Resource Pack Teacher Notes The Animal Cells Card Sort resource pack can be used to learn about or revise the key parts of animal cells and their roles. The language used is suitable for KS3 learners and could also be used as a literacy scaffold at KS4. The resource comes in a variety of alternative formats to enable versatility in its use. Each version presents the same essential information: key words to be learned are each written on a card with an orange outline, an image representing these key words is found on cards outlined in blue, whereas green-outlined cards contain descriptions of the key words. These can be sorted and matched to form a holistic definition of each term. The Animal Cells Card Sort Display resource has each card printed on a single side of A4. These could be printed and laminated for use as an interactive display, or perhaps used as a card sort activity for a small group. The use of larger fonts and images may also make this version more accessible for groups of SEND learners. The Animal Cells Find a Friend activity contains the same cards but presented as two cards per side of A4. The cards could be handed out, one per student, with the aim of learners forming groups of three containing a corresponding key word, diagram and description. These could be redistributed, with students aiming to complete the Animal Cells Components Table through attempting multiple combinations of this activity. The Animal Cells Card Sort activity is a mixed-up version of this resource for use as a cut and stick sorting activity. With eight cards per side of A4 this version is more appropriately sized for sticking into an exercise book. A black and white version of this activity, where the coloured boxes are replaced by differently patterned lines, is also available. This activity could also be used in conjunction with the Animal Cells Components Table if required.
