Santa Maria National High School Malag-alag, Concepcion Norte, Santa Maria, Romblon DETAILED SCIENCE LESSON PLAN I. GRADE LEVEL QUARTER / DOMAIN WEEK 10 Fourth Quarter Three (3) and Four (4) OBJECTIVES The learners demonstrate an understanding of… 1. The structure of biomolecules, which are made up mostly of a limited A. Content Standards number of elements, such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. B. Performance Standards C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives (Write the LC code) II. CONTENT III. LEARNING RESOURCES A. References 1. Teacher’s Guide pages 2. Learner’s Materials pages 3. Textbook pages 4. Additional Materials from Learning Resource (LR) portal B. Other Learning Resources IV. PROCEDURES *There was no specific performance standard for this topic in the Science Curriculum guide The learners should be able to: 1. Recognize the major categories of biomolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, protein, and nucleic acids; (S10MT-IVc-d-22) 2. Differentiate the biomolecules from each other in terms of their structure and function. (S10MT-IVc-d-22) Science: Active Ingredients Science TG10 pp. 314 – 324 Science LM10 pp. 443 – 475 Campbell Biology 11th Edition pp. 66 – 91 Science: Quarter 4 – Biomolecules: Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic Acid (SLM) Internet for images and contexts for the presentation Teacher’s Activity Preliminary Activities: a. Prayer b. Greetings c. Checking of Attendance d. Recalling of Guidelines or Classroom Rules during the discussion Before we begin, let us recall what to do in our classroom? Classroom Guidelines: SBLiP 1. Sit properly 2. Be quiet 3. Listen attentively 4. Participate Let us recall the guidelines for doing an activity. What are those? GROUP ACTIVITY GUIDELINES: 1. Read the directions carefully 2. Respect your groupmates 3. Work cooperatively and silently 4. Do not disturb other groups e. Introduction f. Presentation of objectives Students’ Activity Santa Maria National High School Malag-alag, Concepcion Norte, Santa Maria, Romblon DETAILED SCIENCE LESSON PLAN GRADE LEVEL QUARTER / DOMAIN WEEK 10 Fourth Quarter Three (3) and Four (4) A. Reviewing the previous lesson or presenting the new lesson ELICIT (5 minutes) Activity 1: Where do I belong? Instructions: Students will classify each picture to be posted on the board. They will identify what the pictures are all about and which class they belong to – Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic acids. B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson ENGAGE (7 minutes) Activity 2: 1. Students will be given chocolates and they will identify the ingredients or biomolecules present in the food product. The students will be asked about their feelings after eating the chocolate. 2. Show a sample of nutrition facts on the label of the C. Presenting cracker, then asks what nutrients/biomolecules examples/instances they can get from the food product and how much of the new lesson caloric content should each biomolecule have. D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2 The students will perform the activity The students will perform the activity and answer the questions through recitation. HOW TO READ A LABEL 1. Where do you see Nutrition Facts food labels? How often do you read them? Do your family members read them? 2. What kind of information can you get from a food label? 3. What information can we get from the ingredients list? 4. Briefly discuss the 4 biomolecules. EXPLORE (10 minutes) Activity 3: At this point, the class will have a learning trip on different learning areas inside the classroom; but will be grouped by the teacher into four (4). Thus, having four (4) learning Presentation of areas as each group will be given with specific task. Activity in front of the class LEARNING AREA 1 – Carbohydrates LEARNING AREA 2 – Lipids LEARNING AREA 3 – Proteins LEARNING AREA 4 – Nucleic Acids Tell the learners to present and share their outputs. 1. Provide activity sheets and give ample time for students to accomplish the activity. 2. It will take 10 minutes for each group to finish the activity. F. Developing mastery EXPLAIN (15 minutes) (leads to Formative The teacher will examine and hear the observations and Assessment 3) answers of the students on the activity. Each group will choose a designated speaker to present their work. Discuss the following concepts through a PPT presentation by using these guide questions: 1. What are biomolecules? 2. What are the classifications of these biomolecules? 3. Where do we find these biomolecules – sources? 4. State the compositions, structures, and functions of these biomolecules. 5. How do they differ from each other? The groups will present their observations. The students will answer the HOTS questions given by the teacher through the recitation process. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living ELABORATE (15 minutes) Activity 4: Nutrition is the Key! Allow the students to analyze and provide their insights on this situation. H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson In this time of COVID-19 pandemic, a communicable disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); health experts suggest an The students will optimal intake of nutrients plays a crucial role in boosting present their the immune system. Concerning your knowledge of our answers topic today, how do eating foods rich in these biomolecules Answers may vary improve our physical health in combatting COVID-19 and other communicable diseases? Instruction: Require the students to reflect on their learnings about the advantages and disadvantages of eating these types of biomolecules? I. Evaluating learning J. Additional activities for application or remediation EVALUATE (5 minutes) The students will answer the 5-item summative assessment found at the end of their self-learning modules. EXTEND (3 minutes) Using a variety of resources, search for the following assigned task: 1. Group 1 - Illnesses/diseases caused by improper intake of nutrients. Make a table of the diseases caused by improper consumption of nutrients and describe each. 2. Group 2 – Biomolecules Jingle Create and perform a jingle that talks about the different biomolecules. 3. Group 3 – List a balanced diet that contributes to healthy living. Make a meal plan that incorporates a balanced diet. 4. Group 4 – Picture Analogies Think of a picture analogy for each of the four macromolecules (Proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids). The picture should include the following parts: (You are to draw ONE picture per macromolecule!) You must create your analogies TOGETHER in one picture. NO SENTENCES. You can use words to label parts of your drawing, but you cannot have any written explanation/dialogue/etc. (Let the students express their freedom on how they will present their outputs in the following meeting) V. VI. REMARKS REFLECTION A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation B. No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have caught up with the lesson The students will answer the summative assessment Santa Maria National High School Malag-alag, Concepcion Norte, Santa Maria, Romblon DETAILED SCIENCE LESSON PLAN GRADE LEVEL QUARTER / DOMAIN WEEK 10 Fourth Quarter Three (3) and Four (4) D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did this work? F. What difficulties did I encounter that my principal or supervisor can help me solve? G. What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover that I wish to share with other teachers?
