Topic: Visual arts – Social issues that affect society
Individual Assessment
Create a 2D piece of artwork concerning one of the following social issues in
South Africa and write 5-6 lines about it.
*You are going to draw and use pictures from newspapers, magazines etc.
* You may also use any other material to create tone and texture like for
e.g. feathers, buttons, beads, glitter etc.
* Size of your work must be A4 pages
* Lastly write 5-6 lines about:
- Why have you chosen your topic?
- Who does it affect?
- Come up with one possible solution to this problem
What is a social issue?
A social issue is a problem that influences many citizens within a society. It is a
problem in present day society that many people try to solve,

Term 2 -Grade 8 Formal Assessment – Poetry Performance
Topic: Drama – Indigenous/South African Poetry

Group Assessment
This assessment deals with interpretation and performance of South
African poetry/Praise poetry; Indigenous poems written by South African
poets.
Learners are research South African/ Indigenous poetry and choose one
poem written any South African poet to present. The teacher should
explain the aspects that that their performance will be critiqued on below.
The will be critiqued on the following aspects:
● Text analysis: Expressing the piece in their own way
● Vocal Clarity: Ability to speak distinctly and audibly
● Variation in pitch, pace and tone. Use of emphasis and pauses.
● Physical expressiveness: Appropriate use of facial expressions, movement/
stillness.
● Audience Engagement: effectively engaging the audience by setting the
mood, portraying emotion and making the presentation memorable

Individual Assessment
You are required to make a logo for Queensburgh High School (QHS)
using South African motifs. Research about different South African
Motifs to assist you with your design. Size: A4.

What is a logo?
A symbol or design used to identify an organisation, for example
“Nike’s” Logo is the tick that we all recognise, and the name of that
tick is called “The Swoosh”.
What is a Motif?
A pattern or design, especially a repeated one forming an image
used for decorative purposes.

Topic: Drama – Dramatized Prose
Group assessment
In this assessment you are required to extract a scene from
any media of your choice (television- a soap opera, a film,
television, a play e.g. Shakespeare) and will be required to act
it out. You will be place in groups of 5 or 6.
You are advised to take the following into consideration
before your performance:
● Verbal Characterisation: Vocal clarity, pitch, pace, tone, volume
and emphasis
● Facial Expression, body language, emotional connection to your
character
● Create an appropriate mood using voice and movement – Physical
expressiveness
