1. 1. Our nation's education assessment is largely based on graduation rate 2. 30 years ago, America was the leader in quantity and quality of high school diplomas. 3. 1.3 million high school students don't graduate on time yearly. 4.97% of low-income students rely on school for internet access, but 40 million students do not have highspeed Internet in school. 5.If the 1.3 million dropouts from the Class of 2010 had graduated, the nation would have seen $337 billion more in earnings over the course of the students’ lifetimes. 6.A 3rd grade student who reads at the appropriate reading level compared to a 3rd grade student who does not is 4 times more likely to graduate by age 19. Furthermore, a student living in poverty is 13 times less likely to graduate on time. 7.Teacher quality is one of the most significant factors related to student achievement. In the U.S., 14% of new teachers resign by the end of their first year, 33% leave within their first 3 years, and almost 50% leave by their 5th year. 8.In the workplace, 85% of current jobs and 90% of new jobs require some or more college or postsecondary education 9.Roughly half of the students who enter a 4-year school will receive a bachelor’s degree within 6 years 10.In schools made up of 75% or more low-income students, there are 3 times the number of out-of-field teachers than in wealthier school districts The current school system is causing alot of troubles with students and teachers. Over past years all of students scores are on the declines and the only things that are rising is the price of schooling. Things like this cause alot of stress to students . At such a young age students shouldnt be forced to memorize all this information as a way of being smart, there are many intelligent people in the world with a terrible school career. The current system leads to stress, depression, the fear of not fitting in, etc. The way the school system is built today has left people questioning if this should even being allowed. Many organizations have been with a school reform movement. Teachers have felt the need to agree with the movement too. “Formal education teaches how to stand, but to see the rainbow you must come out and walk many steps on your own.” “Education is beautification of the inner world and the outer world.” At what expense do we have to graduate with. Sure graduating is amazing feeling from high school but what does that come back with. Loads of stress, social anxiety, depression. So many things can be stopped just by fixing the way the school system is made, it needs to based off more than just memorization. If students take notes they should be able to use those notes when they are quizzed or tested on that topic. Students shouldnt be taking loads of notes just to have to memorize them and then forget about it when doing the next lesson. Students feel the need to fit in, so they study, study and study more, and yes they understand it, but at what expense? Losing a social life? Depression? All these factors tie into the way school is built, and it needs to be changed! Brick by Brick!
