Sender and Receiver 2. Receiver needs skills in listening and interpreting the message 3. Very important in getting along with others 4. Sender passes on their message in multiple ways 5. Poor communication accounts for many misunderstandings among friends, family, members and nations SLIDE 4- THE “COMMUNICATION GENERATION” • The “Communication Generation” has access to numerous forms of communication technology. • Examples: e-mail, texting, social media, cell phones (& all of the apps), iPads, laptops, GPS! SLIDE 5- LISTENING • Your skills in listening are just as important as your skills in sending messages. • Your way of listening affects the quality of the conversation. • If there is a misunderstanding between the sender and receiver, it is important to give feedback. SLIDE 6- FORMS OF COMMUNICATION • Verbal: uses WORDS to send and receive messages even when you write texts, emails, or write a paper, you are using verbal communication. • Non-Verbal/Body Language: uses factors other than words. This included gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, and body movements. SLIDE 7: NON-VERBAL/BODY LANGUAGE Helps reveal some of your inner feelings. • Smiling and nodding your head can be a form of enthusiasm. • You can express positive or negative emotions through body language. • Facial Expressions say everything without anything being said. Use 5 or more sentences for each. 1. Instant Flare-Up My mom and I were walking my dog named Messi, my mom accidently dropped the leash, and he ran off and we couldn’t find him. Messi ended up on the golf course on a golf cart driving past our house. The golfers thought that he was attacking them, so he chased Messi with a golf club all the way down the golf course. My mom and I yelled at the golfers to stop because Messi just wanted to say hi, he is a very social dog and didn’t mean any harm. Those golfers felt terrible for what they did but the were misunderstanding of the situation 2. Personality Difference While I was playing Xbox with my friends one day my brother kept talking really loudly while he was also playing. My friends were very annoyed of him and so was I, but my friends were over it and kicked me out of there game because of somebody else. I told him to be quiet, but he couldn’t help it because he kept dying in Fortnite. I didn’t get to play with my friends for the rest of the night because of my brother and I was very upset. He can be very annoying! 3. Power Issue I was very upset because my Mom wouldn’t let me go to the trampoline park with my friends. I kept arguing with her because I was so angry, and I thought why I can’t go it’s a Saturday night and all my friends are going. It ended up being that I had to watch my brothers while they could’ve gone to their friends’ houses. I feel that I’m starting to get old enough to do more things and so are my brothers. My parents have so much control over me, but they know best for me and I accept that because they care about me.
