(the students will choose/pick pictures from the different materials and tools posted on the board) 2. ANALYSIS What can you say about the activity? Ma’am, the activity was challenging Why is it challenging? What was the problem you encountered during the activity? Ma’am, I was confused because there are many pictures of the materials and tools posted on the board and some of these materials and tools are not used in gift wrapping. What was your solution to the problem? Ma’am, I observed very well whether it is a material or a tool used in gift wrapping. From the activity we did, what do you think is our topic for today? Ma’am, based on the activity, our topic for today is about the different tools and materials used in gift wrapping. What do you expect to learn from our topic for today? Ma’am, we want to know how these materials and tools are being used in gift wrapping. 3. ABSTRACTION Before we proceed to the different kinds of materials and tools in gift wrapping, let us first define gift wrapping. What is gift wrapping? Ma’am, gift wrapping is the act of enclosing gift in some sort of materials. In order to enclose a gift successfully, what are the things that you need to prepare? Ma’am, we need to prepare of course the wrapping paper, ruler, box, tape, glue and et cetera. Very good! In gift wrapping, there are several materials and tools that are being used. Let’s define these two words. What are materials? Ma’am, materials are consumable items or object that is being crafted. Very good. What about the meaning of tools? Ma’am, tools are devices that are used to craft/build something into something else. Now, let us discuss the different materials and tools used in gift wrapping. MATERIALS AND TOOLS IN GIFT WRAPPING Who can give the first one? Ma’am, wrapping paper 1. WAPPING PAPER What is wrapping paper and what is the use of it in gift wrapping? Ma’am, wrapping paper is a kind of paper designed for gift wrapping. Can we use manila paper as an alternative for wrapping paper? Why or why not? Ma’am, no, because it is not intended or designed for gift wrapping Very good. What kind of gifts can we use wrapping paper? What if I will give my special someone a fragile thing like a glass? Can I use wrapping paper alone as my material to enclose the glass? Why or why not? What material then I can use to make the glass safe? Very good! Ma’am, yes, as long as we make some designs and makes manila paper different from what it was. Ma’am, clothes , wallet , socks Ma’am, no, because glass is fragile and if you just use wrapping paper to cover the glass it might be broken. Ma’am, you can use a box to protect the glass from being broken. 2. BOX What is a box? Ma’am, a box is a container wherein we can store something like a gift. Aside from protecting gifts like glasses, what is the purpose why we use boxes in gift wrapping? Ma’am, aside from protection that the box gives it also adds element of surprise. Why it add elements of surprise? Ma’am, because you have no idea what’s in the box. Can we use wrapping paper and box at the same time? How? Ma’am, sir. We could use the two at the same time especially if the box is not that presentable. And to hide that imperfection of the box we need to use wrapping paper. How are we going to wrap that box using the wrapping paper? Ma’am, we will base the size/measurement of the wrapping paper to the size/measurement of the box. 3. RULER How are we going to know the size of the box? And why do we need know the measurement of it? Ma’am, through the use of the ruler we can be able to know the dimension of the box and that dimension will be used to measure the size of wrapping paper we will be using to wrap the box. Very good. We need to measure first the size of the box with the use of ruler for us to know also the right size of wrapping paper we need to use to cover the box. For getting the measurement of the Length and Width of the box we got the Area.. Area = LxW Area = 10x5=50cm Now, given that we already know the measurement of the box, what will we do next? Ma’am, transfer the measurement of the box on the wrapping paper. What are we going to use to transfer the measurement of the box on the wrapping paper? Ma’a, we need to use the ruler. Aside from ruler, what else we need to use to transfer the measurement of the box on the wrapping paper? Ma’am, we need to use a pencil or pen 4. PEN AND PENCIL What kind of tools are pen and pencil? Ma’am, these tools are marking tools. What is the difference between pen and pencil? Ma’am, pen is a marking tool and a writing tool used to apply ink to a surface, usually paper, while pencil is writing or marking tool consisting of a thin stick of lead. What is the use of this tool in gift wrapping? Ma’am, when we need to cut the wrapping paper, we have to make marking lines to straightly cut the wrapping paper Very good! After we mark lines on the wrapping paper, what is the next step? Ma’am, we need to cut the wrapping paper. How will we cut the wrapping paper? Ma’am, we need to follow all the lines we mark on the wrapping paper. What tool will be used to cut the wrapping paper on its desired measurement? Ma’am, scissors will be used to cut the wrapping paper. Very good. 5. SCISSORS What kind of tool is scissors? Ma’am, scissors is a cutting tool. Why do we need scissors every time we have to cut some materials in gift wrapping? Ma’am, scissors will help us to make cutting the materials easy and also with the use of scissors we will not make the material ugly and not presentable. Very good! Let me just remind you class that when we use scissors we need to remember the words “safety first” Why we have to be safe with scissors? Ma’am, because scissors has pointy end and blades that might cause accident. Very good. Now, after cutting the wrapping paper, what now is the next step? Ma’am, paste the wrapping paper on the surface of the box. What material is used to paste two materials together? What else? Ma’am, Glue Ma’am, 6. GLUE AND TAPE Why do we use glue and tape in gift wrapping? What is the difference between glue and tape? Tape Ma’am, there are materials that are need to be paste together like wrapping paper on the surfaces of the box and paper decorations on the cover of the box. Ma’am, glue is a liquid adhesive while tape is an adhesive made of strip of paper/plastic Okay Very good! Now, what is the next step after pasting the wrapping paper on the surfaces of the box? Ma’am, we will use ribbon to tie the box. 7. RIBBON Aside from tying the box with ribbon, why do we use or what do ribbon contributes in gift wrapping? Ma’am, ribbon is a narrow strip of plastic or fabric Ma’am, we use ribbon to make the wrapped gifts more beautiful because ribbon adds style and flair in wrapped gifts. 4. APPLICATION Make a simple gift wrapping with the use of the different materials and tools for gift wrapping. The students will work on the activity What is ribbon? The students will wrap a box using the wrapping paper and will use a ribbon to tie the wrapped box. STEPS IN GIFT WRAPPING 1. Prepare all the tools and materials needed in gift wrapping. 2. Make sure you have enough work space, then measure the dimensions of the box and transfer the measurement on the wrapping paper. Leave a few extra inches to be sure you are completely covered. 3. After you have measure the desired measurement of the wrapping paper, cut it with the use of scissors. 4. Once the paper is cut to the right size, place your gift face down in the middle of the paper. Bring paper from the long side of the box, up to the middle of your package. Pull both sides tightly so the paper hugs your package smoothly, and tape closed. 5. Next, you need to close the ends. Face the open end towards you and fold the right and left edges, pushing the sides in next to your box, to form flaps. 6. Fold top flap down to the box, pulling tightly, and tape. Fold the bottom flap up tightly and tape. Repeat on other side of package. 7. Tie a ribbon around the box to add flair/style. Rubric will be used to grade the performance and the output of the students. (The rubric can be seen on the other page of the lesson plan) GENERALIZATION Who can summarize the topics that we have discussed for today? Today, Ma’am, we discussed about the different tools and materials used for gift wrapping. Who can differentiate tools and materials? Ma’am, tools are devices used to craft something while materials are items or object that is being crafted. Who can give me the different materials and tools used in gift wrapping?
