INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES
Evaluation Activity:
Instruction: Observe the illustration below. The picture shows the improper posture
(ergonomics) while using the computer system. What should be the proper way of using the
computer? What should be the level of the eye and the belly? What should be the position the feet and
wrist?
1. Maintain good posture when you work at the keyboard. To do that you have to sit in a good quality
chair so that it will keep your back comfortable.
2. Adjust your seat so that your elbows and knees are bent at 90 degrees.
3. The monitor should be set at the height of your neck so that it’s top will be near eye level. Also
the monitor should be at arm’s length away from you.
4. When you work on the computer you have to make sure that the lighting of the room is moderate so
that it helps the eyes.
5. Finally and the most important thing: Take small breaks of one or two minutes every 15 to 20
minutes and move around so that your body and eyes will rest.

SECONDARY STORAGE
Evaluation Activity:
a. Differentiate a Flash Drive and Universal Serial Bus (USB) and (2) other than Google Drive,
what are other examples of Cloud Storage Devices/Services?
A USB hard drive is a portable hard drive that connects to your computer via USB. It’s built in the
same way as an internal hard drive, but it’s protected by an exterior casing. A USB interface is also
included in the casing, allowing you to connect the drive to your computer’s USB port via a USB
connection. Because USB 1.1 does not have a fast enough data transmission rate, most USB hard
drives require a USB 2.0 connection.
A flash drive, sometimes known as a "keychain drive," connects to your computer's USB interface.
A flash drive, unlike a USB hard drive, is a “solid state” device with no moving parts. Millions of
tiny gates with a value of 1 or 0 are used to store the data electronically. Hard drives use spindles
of disks that spin thousands of times per minute to store data.
Google Drive is a cloud storage service that saves files on Google servers and makes them
accessible from any computer with internet access across the world. Cloud storage give us option
to keep our data private and also give option to share our files publically or through link only some
of examples are google drive, mega cloud storage , OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKS
Evaluation Activity:
Instruction: There are 3 different types of network topology or layout: bus, ring and star
topology. Create your own design or layout of the 3 network topologies.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Evaluation Activity
Instruction: Give atleast 5 examples of information system widely used today, determine
their purposes and benefits in the society.
1. What are the five components that make up an information system?





Hardware
Software
Data
People
Processes
2. What are three examples of information system hardware?



Hardware
Software
Data

3. Microsoft Windows is an example of which component of information systems?

Operating system
4. What is application software?

Application software allows the user to perform tasks such as creating
documents, recording data in a spreadsheet, or messaging a friend.
5. What roles do people play in information systems?

Role of heart in the body .The information is the blood and information system
is the heart. In the body the heart plays the role of supplying pure blood to all
the elements of the body including the brain. The heart works faster and
supplies more blood when needed. It regulates and controls the incoming
impure blood, processes it and sends it to the destination in the quantity
needed.
6. What is the definition of a process?

A process is a series of steps undertaken to achieve a desired outcome or goal.
Exercises:
7. Suppose that you had to explain to a member of your family or one of your closest
friends the concept of an information system. How would you define it? Write a oneparagraph description in your own words that you feel would best describe an
information system to your friends or family.

An information system is records business transactions and produces reports used by
managers for business decisions. It does not require a computer but a computer
database system helps to store and retrieve information from larger data sets. I would
say an accounting system is an earlier version of an information system. Accounting
systems are a good example of a non-computer solution since the early days hand
written ledgers were used to record business transactions.
8. Of the five primary components of an information system (hardware, software, data,
people, process), which do you think is the most important to the success of a
business organization? Write a one-paragraph answer to this question that includes an
example from your personal experience to support your answer.

The most important component of an information system are the people, this is
because people run the business. A business cannot run itself. An example of
this is companies such as google and Facebook. This two technology giant are
successful due to talent they have and continue to source. Both companies
hired talented programmers who helped them create innovative software
products that surpass market expectation
9. We all interact with various information systems every day: at the grocery store, at
work, at school, even in our cars (at least some of us). Make a list of the different
Page 5

information systems you interact with every day. See if you can identify the
technologies, people, and processes involved in making these systems work.
Telecommunication: The exchange of information over significant distances by
electronic means. A complete, single telecommunications circuit consists of two
stations, each equipped with a transmitter and a receiver. The simplest form of
telecommunications takes place between two stations. However, it is common for
multiple transmitting and receiving stations to exchange data among themselves. Such
an arrangement is called a telecommunications network. The internet is the largest
example.
Navigation system represents an information system because it combines hardware,
software, telecommunications or connectivity, and data. In addition, try to identify the
technologies, people, and processes involved in making these systems work. For
example, my car has a built-in navigation system that I interact with on a regular basis
to plan routes, get traffic information, and locate restaurants, gas stations, and other
services
