FAQs Residence Life
Below are the FAQs that were drafted from the 2020 meeting:
 What if I change my mind and want to switch to remote learning?
o Refund for room and board if I move out?
o Remote learning from the residence hall?
o Is there a specific critercriterion for switching to remote learning?
 I have been able to move in as an Early Arrival Student student in previous semesters
from PR, Hawaii, Guam, or Int’l. Will I be able to move in early this Fall? How do I
apply?
o TBD
 Am I allowed to go home on the weekend? Is there a process to request to go home for a
weekend?
o We encourage students to stay on campus for the entirety of the fall semester for
safety reasons. Contact the Dean of Students office for exceptional circumstances.
 Am I allowed to leave campus?
o We encourage students to stay on campus for the entirety of the fall semester for
safety reasons. If you choose to leave campus, please try to follow the state’s
safety guidelines.
 Where do I have to wear a mask in my residence hall?
o You must wear a mask everywhere except your individual root while
maintaining at least a six-foot distance.
Fall Move-In
 When will students move into their rooms?
TBD. Information on the move-in protocol will be forthcoming.
Visitation and Guests
 Will my parents/siblings/boyfriend/girlfriend be able to visit?
o No, for the community’s safety, Parents are only permitted in your residence hall
after move-in day. Your family may, however, visit campus public spaces while
social distancing.
 Can I have my friends in my residence hall room, suite, or apartment if they live in a
different building?
o No.
 What about if my friends live in the same building, but on a different floor?
o Yes.
 Will we be able to host parties in my suite/room/apartment?
o No.
Community Living
 How many students are going to be living in a room?
o Varies depending on the occupancy of your housing assignment.
 Will there still be common areas in the residence halls?
o Yes, however, usage of common area spaces will be limited based on social
distancing protocol.
 Will there be limits on how many people are in the bathrooms?
o Occupancy limits in restrooms will be reduced as needed based on distancing
guidelines. Instructions will be posted on restroom entrances.
 Can I leave my shower caddy in the bathroom?
o No, students are not permitted to leave personal items shared in common spaces
for health reasons.
 How many people can ride in an elevator?
o Occupancy limits in elevators will be reduced as needed based on distancing
guidelines. We encourage individuals to use the stairs when possible.
 How will you ensure that policies in residence halls are actually enforced?
o The Office of Residence Life & Housing and Public Safety will enforce all
residence hall policies.
 What happens if students break a policy?
o Official warnings; parental notification; educational programming; civic engagement
o
experience; community mentor assignment; temporary or permanent loss of privileges
(e.g., housing, leadership opportunities, participation in extracurricular activities; and
participation in events, involvement in activities, ceremonies, and/or commencement
exercises); fines; limitations on access to educational programs and activities, which may
include the opportunity to study abroad; probation; suspension; or, dismissal.
This immediate action may include, but is not limited to, the student’s removal from
campus and/or the ddenialof access to all or specified educational programs or activities
on a temporary or permanent basis.
Cleaning and Maintenence
 What will the rules be in the laundry rooms?
o Coordinated based on floor assignment – times will be staggered
o The laundry machine app will be expanded to provide fore accurate and timely
information
o Full Completening will be performed once per day
o Disinfecting wipes available
o Maintain social distancing guidelines
 How often are the bathrooms being cleaned? Complete full cleaning once per day
o Additional touch point cleaning throughout the day
o Logging of bathroom cleanings
 Will my room be cleaned? Will staff clean my bathroom in my suite/apartment by staff?
o No, we suggest you bring general cleaning supplies with you for the semester
 Will Physical Plant still enter my room to take care of work orders? Will they schedule a
time to come in?

 Can I hire someone to clean my room/suite/apartment?
o No, outside visitors not allowed
 How often will bathrooms, hallways, elevators, lobbies, etc. be cleaned?
o Completelyll cleaning once per day
o Additional touch point cleaning throughout the day
Safety and Security in the Residence Halls
 Who is allowed to enter my room? Under what circumstances can they come to As
invited, roommates & other residents of the building to maintain social distancing
guidelines and wear masks.

 Will there still be security monitors?

 How will we monitor who comes into a residence hall?
o The Office of Public Safety and Office of Residence Life and Housing Staff
 What happens if someone in my room tests positive for COVID-19?
o Rapid Response Team will advise the individual.
o The preference is also for the student to return home to isolate for the appropriate amount of time.
This option is applicable for students within a reasonable commuting
distance where the student can be transported home safely by a parent/family member. When this is not
possible (e.g., there is a person at home who is at-risk/immunocompromised, there is no care provider at
home), students will be directed to an isolation residence to prevent the transmission of the virus among the
community. Students who reside in off-campus housing will be encouraged but not required, to use
isolation residences identified by the College. For all confirmed CO VID-19 cases, a contact tracing team
(to be created) will follow up with the individual daily for a period of up to 14 days. Confirmed
o COVID-19 cases will not be permitted on campus until current public health guidelines for ending
isolation are met (i.e., minimum 10 days of isolation and a minimum of three consecutive days
symptom-free).
Residence Life and Housing Staff
 How will I access Group/GAHD/CD?
o Reach out via text, GroupMe, email, zoom, or visit the RA hall office during duty
hours (see duty schedule.) Contact the Office of Residence Life & Housing.
 Will room change requests still be accommodated?
o Yes, after the second week in October.
 Can I still store my hockey and ROTC equipment in the stairwells?
o No. there is no designated space in the residence halls for athletic equipment.
 Will dining halls be open?
o Yes, with proper social distancing guidelines in place. Refer to
dining.providence.edu More information to come.
 How do I talk with my roommates about boundaries in our room related to COVID
guidelines?
o It’s better to put those things out in the open in the beginninitiallyon is
key to any successful relationship–even roommates.
If you are a first-year student, reach out to your roommates via FaceTime or Skype to
get to know your new roommate(s). When you all get together on campus, it is where
you b it ng up any concerns, voice your opinions, and ultimately come to a
compromise about what goes on in your space. Our community is filled with people
who have backgrounds, cultures, and even languages that may be different from
yours. Think of it as a lesson intolerance.
