Essential Questions:
1. What were the major factors which led to the United States becoming a world power in the leadup to World War I?
2. What were the positive and negative effects of industrialization and urbanization in the post Civil
War period?
3. To what extent did America become more democratic between 1865-1920?

would become a significant world power in the years just prior to 1900. Although the standard of living

result of America’s rise as a world power.

Project: (300 points)
Working on your own or with one other person, complete the following project (300 points):
Each person or team will complete 5 of the 7 tasks. If you finish the 5 of 7 before the deadline, go on and
work on the other two tasks. These will serve as bonus activities that will likely push your grade higher.
However, your primary responsibility will be to complete the 5 tasks as professionally as you can. This
work will have the biggest impact on your grade. Please note: THE ESSAY IS A REQUIRED TASK
FOR EACH PERSON IN THE GROUP. If you choose to write both essays to cover two tasks, both
team members will need to write both essays.
TASKS:
●
1. Google Forms Task: Choose 20 questions taken from past regents exams that fall within the
timeframe of 1877-1920. Create a quiz or survey on Google Forms that incorporates these
questions, including any visuals you might wish to use, into the task. The link to the New York
State Regents website can be found here.

●
2. Create a QUIZLET or Jeopardy game as a review aid for your classmates based on the 20
questions that you chose in task 1. Link the Quizlet in the space provided below.
●
3. Create an interactive timeline that includes 15 important events from the time period
between 1877-1920. You may research and use one of the timeline makers available here.

●
4. Read Chapters (Insert your textbook here) Answer any 40 of the questions in the reading
(answer the questions in a Google Doc). Cut and paste each question into the document and
answer the question in the space following.
●
5. Make a 2-3 minute Cartoon on Powtoon/Pixton (available at powtoon.com) or write a
Graphic Novel about the life of one of the people mentioned above. Make sure to include the
who, what, where, when, why, and how (like a newspaper writer would) when you make the
cartoon. Powtoon can be found here (https://www.powtoon.com/account/login/?next=/mypowtoons/#/) and a graphic novel generator can be found here.

Minecraft. You may also find another Regents essay here that relates to the time period of 18651920 and write the essay.
●
6. Write the following thematic essay or DBQ linked below. The thematic essay begins on
page 12 and the DBQ begins on page 15. You may choose to write both essays if you would like
to and have that count as two different tasks.

Civil War until the end of World War I. Immigration, industrial growth, and the rise of the United
States as an imperial superpower all happened during this timeframe. You may create a unique and
individualized response to this task. This could include making food from this time period,
researching family history, or creating a document that helps your classmates understand one
important concept from this timeframe. If you are unsure of how to proceed with this task but
would like to try it, check with (your name) on how to proceed.
