Date: 24-03-2022 Supervisor Dr. Sophiya Umar CHAPTER 1 1.1 Pointillism: is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. The term "Pointillism" was coined by art critics in the late 1880s to ridicule the works of these artists, but is now used without its earlier pejorative connotation.[2] The movement Seurat began with this technique is known as Neo-impressionism. The Divisionists used a similar technique of patterns to form images, though with larger cube-like brushstrokes. 1.2 Technique: The technique relies on the ability of the eye and mind of the viewer to blend the color spots into a fuller range of tones. It is related to Divisionism, a more technical variant of the method. Divisionism is concerned with color theory, whereas pointillism is more focused on the specific style of brushwork used to apply the paint. It is a technique with few serious practitioners today and is notably seen in the works of Seurat, Signac and Cross. However, see also Andy Warhol's early works and Pop Art. 1.3 Practice: The practice of Pointillism is in sharp contrast to the traditional methods of blending pigments on a palette. Pointillism is analogous to the four-color CMYK printing process used by some color printers and large presses that place dots of cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black). Televisions and computer monitors use a similar technique to represent image colors using Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) colors. If red, blue, and green light (the additive primaries) are mixed, the result is something close to white light (see Prism (optics)). Painting is inherently subtractive, but Pointillist colors often seem brighter than typical mixed subtractive colors. This may be partly because subtractive mixing of the pigments is avoided, and because some of the white canvas may be showing between the applied dots. 1.4 Common uses of Pointillism: Pointillism is commonly used for the intricate binding of hand-made book covers in the seventeenth century, the decoration of metallic arms and armor, and for the decoration of hand-finished firearms. PAKISTANI CONTEMPRARY ARTIST LUBNA AGHA Lubna Agha (May 2, 1949 - May 6, 2012) was an American artist. She was of Pakistani descent and lived in Brookline, Massachusetts. Her art invokes a dialogue between the modern-abstract and traditional forms and practices of Islamic paintings. Her work taps on visual images once a part of daily life but now a part of history—from places as geographically disparate as South Asia and North Africa. She painted mainly on canvas and wood, applying an infinite number of painted pixels and organic shapes that evoke mosaic tiling, intricate carvings, and ornate metalwork. CHAPTER 2 MY INSPIRATIONS George Seurat and paul signac are my inspiration for the work im doing in pointillism. The work with the primary colors attracts me towards the pointillism. So here is some of my artwork I’ve created in the technique of pointillism. Flowers have located blooming through little cracks in the rocks on high mountains. Flowers are located thriving through slight clefts in the buildings. Yes, optimistic environs and suitable nurturing hastens the growth of the flowers, but its lack doesn’t halt the flowers from rising altogether. Life is like a flower and neither can it blossom deprived of love and sunshine! A Lotus blossoms in dirty water but it is one of the finest flowers overall. So no matter how many ups and downs might be there in life, be like a flower flourishing to the extreme, increasing joy and living life to the full. In Conclusion: Life is a Flower Flowers are the happiest things that we come by. Scents of flowers always follow in the direction of wind. Thus constantly count your garden by the flowers, not ever by the leaves that fall. Life is like a flower; both exhibit the same qualities from which we can learn.
