OUTDOOR GLASS APERTURES CLEANING – WORKING AT HEIGHT
SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENT
Site – HSBC
Contractor – Bad Boy Cleaners
Purpose of work
The following statement of methodology will cover the safe working procedures for the cleaning
of outdoor glass panels to be carried out by Bad Boy Cleaners employees.
Health & Safety
The following points are applicable to all operatives whilst on site to undertake cleaning
operations:
1 Only trained and competent employees of Bad Boy Cleaners are to access these areas.
2 All personnel undertaking cleaning operations will be deemed fit to do so and it will be
the duty of the team supervisors to ascertain the ‘fitness’ of the individual members of
his working team.
3 On the day the work is due to be undertaken the weather conditions will be assessed by
the team supervisor before any operations are undertaken.
4 Before any works are undertaken an exclusion zone will be set up beneath the area of
work. This should include hazard warning lights, barriers, signage and/or barrier tape if
required.
5 Whilst work is in progress the operatives will work in pairs and at all times stay in direct
contact with each other either by visual or verbal communication
Structure of Working Team
The working team will consist of a minimum of two operatives and a supervisor.
Each member of the working team shall be held personally responsible for his/her own safety
and conduct whilst at work.
In addition, the supervisor will be responsible for making sure that all members of the team are
fully aware of and implement all aspects of the company’s Health & Safety Policy.
The supervisor will also ensure that all safe working practices are being adhered to at all times

Emergency Procedures
When on site, all employees are informed of the current HSBC fire and emergency procedures.
All accidents/injuries will be reported following the procedures laid down in the Company Health
and Safety guidelines and adhering to all current Legislation.
Exclusion Zones
The Exclusion Zone should be calculated to keep people clear of any risk of falling objects.
Account should be taken of the possibility of materials deviating from a straight fall as a result
after bouncing off the structure.
People should be prevented from entering the exclusion zone by posting warning signs or
erecting barriers where required.
Equipment
Portable cleaning equipment and related fittings, Step ladder, Long reach pole, Cloths, Brushes
and Purified/Distilled Water
Arrival on Site
Report to the HSBC Site manager.
Complete site induction
Proceed to working area and check areas are safe to work
Check equipment is safe and in good working order and report any discrepancies
Proceed to work as per method of work.
Description and sequence of work
A visual inspection of the site will be made by the supervisor to check for potential hazards with
attention to overhead obstructions, access routes, ground conditions and any weight loading
restrictions.
The employees will be briefed by the supervisor on any potential hazards.
Workers at street level to wear high visibility vests to ensure visibility by oncoming
traffic/moving vehicles.
All loads within the working platform to be secured at all times during lifting.
Certified lifting equipment on site, (mobile elevated working platform and/or cage suspended
form crane ) to be positioned in safe area to ensure visibility by oncoming traffic.
Competent persons are to operate lifting equipment and briefing of communication plan to be
carried out.

Workers are to access a certified working platform attached/secured by a harness and two
lanyards to reach working areas.
Elevated working platform to be lowered back at street level to the designated areas.
