Introduction 1.1 Purpose The purpose of these Procedures is to identify the minimum scheduled maintenance tasks, as agreed by Airbus, the ISC and the Landing Gear Manufacturer, of the A320 Family Landing Gear Overhaul. The Tasks identified in this Procedures Document provide the formal Instructions for Continued Airworthiness for the A320 Family Landing Gear Overhaul. This Procedures Document can be used as the basis for the creation of an Overhaul Work Scope agreement between an Owner/Operator and a Vendor/MRO. NOTE: This Overhaul Procedures Document for the A320 Family Landing Gear Overhaul replaces the following Landing Gear Restoration VSBs: • 200-32-295 “LANDING GEAR - MAIN LANDING GEAR - DEFINITION OF RESTORATION TASKS FOR THE MAIN LANDING GEAR” • 201-32-48 “LANDING GEAR - MAIN LANDING GEAR - DEFINITION OF RESTORATION TASKS FOR THE • 580-32-3170 “LANDING GEAR - NOSE LANDING GEAR - DEFINITION OF RESTORATION TASKS FOR THE MAIN LANDING GEAR” NOSE LANDING GEAR” 1.2 Using These Procedures These Procedures contain five sections. Section 1 is an Introduction. Sections 2 and 3 describe the minimum overhaul standard. Section 4 is for items not subject to Overhaul, and goes beyond the minimum overhaul standard. Section 5 is for reporting any findings during Overhaul. These Overhaul Procedures must be used in conjunction with the applicable CMMv and CMMm. Section 2 - Minimum Inspection Tasks This section lists the requirements of the ATA 32 Tasks in the A320FAM Maintenance Review Board Report, which define the minimum inspection standard for an Overhauled Landing Gear. Section 3 - General Requirements This section contains general requirements and accomplishment instructions to carry out the Overhaul. Section 4 – Items Not Subject to Overhaul This section contains information on the minimum instructions for continued airworthiness of items identified as Not Subject to Overhaul but require inspection and test to establish that their serviceability meets airworthiness standards. NOTE: Recommended Service Bulletins/Vendor Service Bulletins The embodiment of Recommended Service Bulletins (SB) or Vendor Service Bulletins (VSB) that the Owner/Operator may require to improve the operational reliability or performance of the Landing Gears is not included in the minimum overhaul standard Work Scope. 01March 2017 Page 4 1.3 Definitions 1.3.1 Landing Gear A Landing Gear, for the purposes of these Overhaul Procedures, is defined as an assembly of all the units listed in the ‘Applicability’ section of this document. Components identified with an asterisk (*) in the table can be overhauled separately from the rest of the Landing Gear. 1.3.2 Landing Gear Overhaul A Landing Gear Overhaul, for the purpose of these Procedures, is defined as a process that includes the disassembly, cleaning, check, inspection, repair or replacement of the parts contained in the MRBR Tasks. These parts must then be reassembled, adjusted, refinished and tested as appropriate. A Landing Gear Overhaul also ensures that the Landing Gear is in complete conformity with the initial manufacturing and/or repair limits as specified in the applicable Instructions for Continued Airworthiness. 1.3.3 Work Scope A Work Scope defines all the work required by the Owner/Operator to be accomplished at the opportunity of the Overhaul of the Landing Gear. This will include all the Tasks listed in the ‘Minimum Overhaul Tasks’ section of these Procedures. It can also include additional items as required by the Owner/Operator. This additional work, such as embodiment of recommended Service Bulletins, any inspections or replacements of items, should be agreed between the Owner/Operator and the MRO. These additional tasks are optional and may be performed at the discretion of the Owner/Operator based on their own operational and economic considerations. 1.3.4 Detailed Inspection (DET) An intensive visual examination of a specific item, installation or assembly to detect damage, failure or irregularity. This could include tactile assessment in which a component or assembly can be checked for tightness/security. Available lighting is normally supplemented with a direct source of good lighting at an intensity deemed appropriate. Inspection aids such as mirrors, magnifying lenses may be necessary. Surface cleaning and elaborate access procedures may be required. NOTE Detailed Inspection is covered by DETAILED INSPECTION, VISUAL INSPECTION or EXAMINE PARTS VISUALLY in the applicable CMM. 01March 2017 Page 5 1.3.5 Special Detailed Inspection (SDI) An examination of a specific item, installation, or assembly making use of specialized Inspection Techniques such as Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and/or equipment.(e.g. Boroscope, Videoscope, Tap Test) to detect damage, failure or irregularity. Intricate cleaning and substantial access or disassembly procedure may be required. Classification of a task as an SDI does not define the required qualifications for the person performing the task. NOTE Special Detailed Inspection is covered by FITS AND CLEARANCES or NDT in the applicable CMM. 01March 2017 Page 6 1.4 Applicability A318/A319/A320/A321 MAIN LANDING GEAR 01March 2017 Page 7 Reporting Requirements Due to the Landing Gear Safe Life Design Concept, Airbus and the Airworthiness Authorities require Owner/Operators to report any damage or deterioration found during the Overhaul of the Landing Gear. Damage/deterioration includes corrosion, wear and accidental damage. It is also required to report details of repair or scrap and reasons for scrap. This requirement must be included in the Overhaul Work Scope and included in the return conditions to the Operator as identified in Section 3.9. Any corrosion findings on structural parts exceeding Level 1 corrosion must be reported. The Corrosion Level definitions are stated in the Corrosion Prevention & Control Program (CPCP) rules in the Structure Section of the MPD. The above information is necessary for Airbus, the Landing Gear Manufacturer and the Airworthiness Authorities to monitor the continuing airworthiness and performance of the Landing Gears. It is also requested that NIL FINDINGS are reported, as this can provide justification for a future escalation of the Time Between Overhaul (TBO). This will never be possible without sufficient information, therefore it is in the best interest of Operators to ensure Airbus receives this information. To be compliant with the Overhaul requirements stated in this document, completed Landing Gear Overhaul Reporting Forms must be sent directly to Airbus within 3 months of the Overhaul completion date, at the following address: ldg.reporting@airbus.com The MLG/NLG findings report forms can be downloaded using the following path: AirbusWorld / Content Library / Maintenance and Engineering / MPD Information / A320FAM Landing Gear Overhaul Findings Reporting Form (NLG) and A320FAM Landing Gear Overhaul Findings Reporting Form (MLG).
