Read the following paragraph and decide which answer is stronger and why.
Dr. John S. Pemberton was a pharmacist in Atlanta, Georgia. A pharmacist is a person who
prepares medicines. In 1886, Pemberton was experimenting with a new kind of medicine. He
wanted to make a syrup that would treat headaches. He mixed together sugar, water, caffeine, oils
and other ingredients. The syrup included parts of a plant called the coca plant and a nut called the
kola nut. Pemberton decided to call his sticky brown syrup Coca-Cola. Pemberton first tried to sell Coca-Cola as a
medicine. He asked a pharmacist in Atlanta to mix the syrup with water and sell it as a treatment for headaches and
tiredness. People who tried the syrup liked the taste. Once, carbonated water was added to the syrup by accident. This
bubbly water made the syrup taste even better. Pemperton died in 1888. Soon after, a man named Asa G. Candler took
ownership of the Coca-Cola recipe. Before long Candler had opened the Coca-Cola company and was selling CocaCola all over the United States. Today people drink it all around the world.
Which sentence shows the author’s point of view about the accidental ingredient that was added to John’s Coca-Cola?
A
The syrup included parts of a plant called the coca
B
This bubbly water made the syrup taste even better.
Plant and a nut called the kola nut.

A soft robotic hand made history by beating the first level of "Super Mario Bros." Scientists used the game as a
test to see how quickly a robot could press and release buttons on a game controller. The real breakthrough, however,
is not what it does, but its creation.
The first flexible robot, an octopus design from 2016, used microfluid circuits to control the machine. A
microfluid circuit is an arrangement of tiny parts through which fluids move to complete tasks. The fluids are water or
air. Valves control how much fluid flows through tubing and chambers. As the fluid flows, robotic parts inflate or
deflate, which causes movement.
The method to create the soft robot octopus was cumbersome, says Jennifer Lewis. She is an engineering
professor at Harvard University. She co-authored the report of the 2016 robot octopus, but was not involved in the
University of Maryland's project. Lewis and her team had to create the circuit by one method and then insert it into a
molded and 3-D-printed robot. In the new study, scientists used more complicated microfluidic circuits, says Lewis.
1.) What does the author MOST LIKELY want the reader to think about the new soft robotic hand based on paragraph 1?
(A) The robotic hand is exciting and has done something that has never been done before.
(B) The robotic hand is very expensive because it can play video games better than humans.
(C) The robotic hand can only use a video game controller and cannot be used for anything else.
(D) The robotic hand is very complicated to make and it will never be able to be copied.
2.) What is MOST likely the reason the author included the information about the octopus robot?
(A) to highlight a stronger flexible robot that can do moves on video games that other robots cannot
(B) to highlight the original flexible robot model that printed the robot and the circuit in one step
(C) to highlight a stronger flexible robot that plays the piano better than the newest soft robot
(D) to highlight the original flexible robot model that has a similar system to the newest soft robot
