BUILDING MENTAL FITNESS LESSON TWO
STAMPING OUT ANTS (AUTOMATIC NEGATIVE THOUGHTS)!
COMMITTING TO STAMP OUT ANTS
Imagine an ant in your kitchen. One or two may seem alright, but what if
they soon become a whole army of ants crawling all over your food and
infesting your kitchen?
Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs) are similar. Instead of dwelling on
them until they become a bigger problem, we need to be disciplined to
stamp them out early and get to the root of the problem. Don’t let the
negative thoughts stay in your mind and ruin how you feel!
What is one ANT I commit to stamp out?
1.
Who can I approach for help to rationalise my ANT or
if I feel troubled by my repeated thoughts?
1.
2.
What are three questions that I will use to challenge an ANT
the next time it arises?

I am grateful to my aunt for always welcoming me into her house
and I get to play with my cousins, and eat nice food!
What I will do to to thank him/her is to help clean up the dishes the
next time I am at her house.

EXIT CARD REFLECTION
Variety is the spice of life
In today’s lesson, you have seen how diversity forms part of our national
identity in Singapore.
As a reflection, think of two words (and explain your choice of words) that best
address the following questions:
How can you foster a sense of
belonging for yourself and others
in the common spaces that you
occupy?
Recall what you discussed
& learnt today...
What are some aspirations expressed
in the National Anthem and Pledge,
that will enable you to foster a sense
of belonging for yourself and others?
Relate to the National
Pledge & Anthem...
