Matt Abramo Robbins 5 period 20, September 2011 Poseidon Poseidon is the god of the ocean and was a brother of Zeus, the leader of the gods. Poseidon got his position by picking reeds with Zeus and Hades, Zeus got the biggest reed so he got the sky as his realm, but Poseidon didn’t mind for he wanted the ocean anyway, so when he got the second largest reed, he got the ocean leaving poor Hades with the underworld. Poseidon (Greek: Ποσειδῶν) was the god of the sea, and, as "EarthShaker,"[1] of the earthquakes in Greek mythology.[2] The name of the sea-god Nethuns in Etruscan was adopted in Latin for Neptune in Roman mythology: both were sea gods analogous to Poseidon. Thorburn, John E., Jr. "Poseidon." Facts On File Companion to Classical Drama. New York: Facts On File, Inc., 2005. I chose Poseidon because to me he is the coolest god. He, like I said, wanted to get the ocean in the first place and, well, he got it. I also have always like him because when I was younger my favorite color was blue, and since the ocean is pretty much blue, I like Poseidon. Poseidon was known to be angry and would hold grudges. When he got angry, he would shoot massive tidal waves at nearby towns and he would smash his trident onto the ground to cause earthquakes.
